Students are not alone in their concerns about missing a family Christmas. The virus has no favourites.

Philip lived on Malta where they had no staff

Really?

We had staff and my father was a lowly Flt.Lt at the time. grin

Oh dearie me. Never mind. Move on. Get over it!

The queen may have to change her plans for a traditional Christmas.

Am I bothered? There are people who will be going to a food bank for their Christmas meal. So sad. ?

Lucca Nannan2 &Missiseff* with you!

Had the Queen retired at 65 and Prince Charles had taken over ,he would now have retired and we would have Prince William as King.
The Queen would be the Queen Grandmother and still "serve her Country " if she so wished .
She could have retired to Sandringham .
Am I the only person who thinks that would have been a good idea?
Although I don't feel sorry for him ,I imagine it must be frustrating for Prince Charles and indeed for Prince William.
My DH says the trouble is that they don't know what to do with him.

I believe the queen can cook. Roast turkey and veg should be a doddle.
Happy Christmas Ma'am .

I'd take an article like this with a barrel full of salt. Just some one stirring the pot. I really doubt the Queen gets furious over stuff like that.

Most likely some reporter was told about the bubble between two places thing and made up the rest from there.

paddyanne Wed 30-Sep-20 14:52:29

She could always move into a care home.pay extortionate fees and find out how most old folk live ...IF they can afford a care home after a lifetime of REAL work

gillyjp Wed 30-Sep-20 15:11:19

I too am really not bothered about any of them to be honest' However over the years I have read some snippets about their lives away from the public glare. Rumour has it that Philip always likes to do a barbeque when they are on their holidays in one of their castles. The Queen apparently does the washing up after (as if!).

Maybe they will haul out the BBQ between them and Philip can rustle up bbq'd turkey legs or turkey kebabs. Just ordinary folk like the rest of us (NOT!)

grandtanteJE65 Wed 30-Sep-20 15:13:53

Well none of us are likely to have exactly the Christmas and New Year we want, are we?

Callistemon Wed 30-Sep-20 15:18:02

find out how most old folk live

According to a survey, about 4% of over 65s live in care homes, rising to 15% of those aged 85+.

So most old folk don't live like that.
I hope I never have to.

But some people love being nasty

But some people love being nasty

For example ?

annep1 Wed 30-Sep-20 18:06:42

It would be good if you could stop for one minute and instead of picking fault actually take in the point that Paddyanne is making. There's nothing nasty in trying to get people to see how unjust it is to spend so much on one family while others are living in such poor conditions. Why do we do it? Os it fair? Perhaps someone could answer that ( although I have just been told questions arent allowed on GN. Quote from Eezybee " It's not a quiz show". )
Anyone willing to answer?

annep1 Wed 30-Sep-20 18:07:52

Will be back tomorrow to see if anyone has answered ?

annep1 Wed 30-Sep-20 18:08:48

Is it fair. not Os

I like your thinking Lancslass1. ER doesn’t need to hold on to the crown so tenaciously because in retirement she could continue to keep her promise to serve her country for the whole of her life.

aonk Wed 30-Sep-20 18:18:43

I’m very surprised at the posts on this thread. A recent calculation showed that our contribution to the funding of the Royal family amounts to about £1.17 per person per year. Like everyone else I wish that there was no hardship in this country but feel that it’s a separate but extremely important issue. The Queen has served this country and it’s people so very well over the years. What was reported in the press is probably malicious gossip designed to sell papers. The Queen deserves our loyalty and our respect and thanks for her service. There will always be some who are very comfortably off. The aim should be to improve the circumstances of the less fortunate rather than snipe at the wealthy.,

Grannynannywanny Wed 30-Sep-20 18:21:33

I’m just wondering if she’ll be wearing a Christmas onesie and a hat from a cracker for a more relaxed Christmas Day speech

merlotgran Wed 30-Sep-20 18:53:13

Oh, I'd forgotten about the speech. For the first time ever, the Cambridges, Tindalls et al will be able to whisper, 'Shall we record it and watch it later?' shock

Grany Wed 30-Sep-20 19:00:45

aonk I think you'll find it cost tax payer a lot more

Here is what the Royals actually cost explained.

I bring to you ... The Royle Family Christmas

Chewbacca Wed 30-Sep-20 22:15:53

I honestly can't say that my heart bleeds for HM. Every one else is having to rethink their usual family traditions and she's no different where COVID is concerned. I suspect that her dummed down Christmas festivities will be a million miles from ordinary folks.

I prefer your royal family narrowboatnan; infinitely more fun.

sparklingsilver28 Wed 30-Sep-20 23:18:03

Aonk - My thoughts entirely!

MissAdventure Wed 30-Sep-20 23:32:56

I'll try not to let it spoil my Christmas, which is spent alone, because I've nobody to go to, really, apart from kind and well meaning people who say "well you could come to us?" (Then probably go home and worry that I might take them up on it) smile

I'll think of her maj and count my blessings.

Franbern Thu 01-Oct-20 08:39:59

Oh such a tragedy - perhaps we need to have a collection for her........Oh that's right - we do every day
