I have a question and would like your thoughts please?

Does anyone wonder if we keep locking down and hiding from covid, will we ever be strong enough to face up to it?

I`m not saying this is what I think, but it does occur to me sometimes.

Thanks

‘strong’ in what way? Physically I’m not getting stronger as I get older, more health problems etc. Mentally I am strong, but common sense tells me that if I catch Covid I might not survive.
My GCs are on their second lot of quarantine due to them coming into contact with others, so it doesn’t make sense for us to travel 4 hours to see them.
So I’m staying strong by protecting myself and DH by following the rules.
But once this second lockdown is over we will probably start to venture out again, but we will be strictly wearing masks etc.

Do not understand what Staying Strong means. Surely the whole point of Lockdowns/circuit breakers , etc. are to flatten the curve of infection, to enable Health Service to cope with those who are seriously ill with this. Each time such a Lockdown/circuit breaker ceases, then infection rates will rapidly rise again.

The virus will slowly diminish - but very slowly, probably over many years. So, the real hope is some sort of vaccine programme(s) which can protect the majority of the population from getting this virus.

I think the biggest effect on folk's confidence will be the vaccine, even if we have to continue to wear masks and socially distance even if we have had the jab to protect others. I'm being sensible as I'm classified as vulnerable due to the autoimmune medication I take and DH and I are following the rules and keeping risk to the minimum. I've started to look at holiday brochures, although wont book anything and considering going back to the gym once it's safe for me to do so (probably post vaccine jab). Life is for living and being fearful and hiding away isn't living.

We can get on with our lives carefully. Covid is around so need to be aware of it and do whatever is necessary to keep ourselves and others safe.
It will be worth these restricted times if people are around to enjoy a covid free life in future. Hopefully with a vaccine that may not be too long.

I agree with Franbern

Perhaps we need to be strong enough to make ourselves get through the lockdown safely, and not weaken into risking our own and other people's health by spreading the virus unnecessarily?

Agree with Elegran.

I don’t know what being strong means. We’ve just kept on keeping on because what other choice is there? Same as my old mum, she hasn’t let it get her down.

I believe what Sir Jeramy Farrar ( medical researcher and director of the Wellcome Trust) said yesterday.
This virus now, in my view is part of humanity. It is an endemic infection now
This man advises the sage committee.

We go for a walk every day and OH took himself off for a longer walk yesterday which helps physical and mental health. Rather harder for people who physically can’t manage this but presumably it is the same for them pre COVID.

I dare say we’ve all had a wobbly moment but pull back because, in the long term, being gloomy and pessimistic is not going to help and will have a detrimental effect on our overall health.

It’s not purely a COVID issue. I can remember some great aunts visiting and all they wanted to talk about was illness and who had died. My Mum kept valiantly trying to change the subject but it was immediately brought back by them. I wa young enough to find it quite comical!

I can understand that by staying in we won't have the same resistance/ immunity to infection but on the other hand, who wants to find out ? Not me.
We could be alright, then again we mightn't be. It's not worth taking that chance.

Well, Sweden, the country that didn’t go into lockdown and was used by many as an example of how much better it would have been to have not locked down has now had to lock down due to soaring death rates.
