this seems just crazy.

janeainsworth Fri 08-Jan-21 12:53:15

Yes, a friend sent me a link- so no, not had the 'joy' of reading the DM

You mean you started the thread without bothering to read the article biba?

Charleygirl5 Fri 08-Jan-21 12:53:31

I just want the vaccine- any vaccine and although I live on my own I will put up with any side effects. I do not normally have any side effects after a flu jab so I doubt if this one will be any different.

I am ready, willing and waiting impatiently. I could also self administer if that would be of any help. That would never happen because of the risk of anaphylactic shock and living on my own.

EllanVannin Fri 08-Jan-21 12:54:04

The Pfizer one is the safe bet if I could pick and choose.

There is one I wouldn’t relish having and that is the Russian one!
Either of the two we already have would be fine though!

Although I hear that you'll be able to speak fluent Russian afterwards which could be a bonus, something to do with a microchip?

JOKE ALERT before I get jumped on.

This is my Mum! Although her reasoning is that it offers more immune support - She is 98. But I have encouraged her to get what ever is offered but she is stubborn!

Saw this on the local news last night. Some older people are refusing the Pfizer vaccine because its 'German' and they want the English one. I suspect some of the oldest of them are biased by wartime memories (or opinions they gained from their parents). A friend of mine said she wanted the Oxford one - and she's a retired medic!

Personally, I'll take what I'm given, although I'd prefer the Pfizer or Oxford ones to any of the others. I wouldn't refuse the Pfizer one since its efficacy is better than the Oxford one. Another friend has had both her Pfizer jabs and is very happy with that.

Such dimwits should be told that he AZ one is not wholly “British”, the head is French, the scientists who developed it are from many different countries

Confused of Southend here.
In one breath it's assumed that I'm a hairy knuckle dragging Moron for reading the Mail, and now I'm expected to believe it. ?

BlueBelle Fri 08-Jan-21 13:09:26

Bloody Daily Mail trust some newspapers for revving it all up
I think many people were thinking about the way the two vaccines had to be stored and travel when they made preferences and comparing the price of the two vaccines as well
I think there would be a very very tiny percentage of anybody who refused it because it wasn’t English based
Isn’t the Oxford one made in India ??

DiscoDancer1975 Fri 08-Jan-21 13:10:03

I think it’s in the wrong order anyway, but that’s a different thread!

Oldwoman70 Fri 08-Jan-21 13:13:30

Just heard on local radio that a 3rd vaccine, from America, has been approved for use in UK, soon we will be spoiled for choice!

merlotgran Fri 08-Jan-21 13:15:55

This is just a storm in a teacup. Some elderly, misguided people thought they would be better off waiting for the 'English vaccine'. How they voted is nobody else's business and totally irrelevant.

The vaccine didn't go to waste.

EllanVannin Fri 08-Jan-21 13:18:41

Being that I have 38% German DNA, Pfizer would suit me down to the ground grin

eazybee Fri 08-Jan-21 13:18:50

I have a friend in her nineties who said she would have preferred a particular type of vaccine because she has shares in that company, but it was a JOKE, accepted as such, and she was grateful for the vaccine she was given.

Galaxy Fri 08-Jan-21 13:20:32

Me too Ellanvannin, perhaps I should put in a request.

So, ten police officers had the spares out of, I assume, the 925 in the batch sent out. There will always be a % who don’t/can’t turn up for their appointment, as there was with the flu vaccine. Typical DM stirring.

well to be honest, as there are millions of people desperate for the vaccine, people who refuse a vaccine on the grounds of it's provenance should simply move aside and allow others to have it instead.

janeainsworth Fri 08-Jan-21 13:29:23

Maw I thought it might have been the ‘friend’ who sent the photo of all those British tourists not social-distancing at a Greek airport a few months ago wink

biba70 Fri 08-Jan-21 14:01:06

Does it matter which friend it was- really. I am very lucky to have many friends, including a lot of ex students who love to send me stuff. So you are right jane, I didn't not read the full article- to which I, thank goodness, do not have access to.

It is important to know who to trust, and I trust this friend and lovey ex student.

biba70 Fri 08-Jan-21 14:01:51

but jane and Maw- wow- what a dream team.

Kalu Fri 08-Jan-21 14:05:38

If you don’t read the Daily Mail through choice, why would you send a link from a friend without further reasearch?

No news I have heard/read this morning, makes any reference to your thread title biba

Buffybee Fri 08-Jan-21 14:13:52

Yawn ?

It highlights the danger of passing on second hand information, whether it be something someone else has said e.g,on another site, or linking to an unsubstantiated source.
These are just three examples, there have been others - perhaps you need to be more discriminating about your contacts.
No question of a “dream team” janeainsworth and I are not the only people to question the motivation behind threads which are based on questionable sources.
As the Good Book says, “Do not bear false witness..”

It’s been reported in a number of newspapers Kalu, not just the DM. If you type refusing Pfizer vaccine into your search bar you’ll see them, it looks like NE England reported it first.
