Is now spreading in the community. This is a real worry. It has to be contained somehow.

Do you have any suggestions?

Are you not worried? This variant possibly affects younger people and I’m really concerned about it. Till now the only reassuring thing about COVID was that my children and grandchildren were low risk.

I think * Urmstrongran* was suggesting what my husband used to say at work (and even to me sometimes!) “ Don’t come to me with a problem. Come to me with a solution”.

Sorry! Put the asterisk in the wrong place Urmstongran

I think we're all in danger of jumping on every bit of news about this virus and seeing the worst immediately. I can't see any evidence in the press that this new variant infects children and young people any more than anybody else and no evidence that the symptoms are worse.

There are going to be new variants of this all the time and if we worry about every single one we're all going to go mad.

Yes of course it’s a worry. Everything about this pandemic is a worry right now.

A scientific paper said the new variant adds to the growing body of evidence that it is more transmissible than the old variant and that this is actually more worrying than an increase in the new variant's mortality - because of the exponential nature of spread, a more transmissible variant will lead to a lot more people getting Covid, and thus a lot more people dying.

But in answer to you MayBee my worrying about it won’t stop it. Let’s just pin our hopes on our very clever scientists and the fact that the government at the highest level here and world wide are aware of it and doing their best to deal with it. We can’t ask for more I guess.
