Vaccination letter today -missing information

OH received vaccination letter today inviting him to make appointment, unfortunately on line booking says he isn't eligible.
I've rung them, and apparently letter should have said not to book until 15th.
Just in case anyone else is having same problem!

Annie26 Fri 12-Feb-21 14:34:41

I got the letter today too and couldn’t book online so rang the number given and was told can’t book until they update their system. Perhaps they should have delayed sending out the letters for a day or two. It was rather annoying as I know of people younger than me who have already had the vaccination with no underlying health issues

B9exchange Fri 12-Feb-21 14:37:18

This happened when they first opened it up to the over 70s, it took them several days to update the system. I have no idea if they will have done it by 9.00 am on 15th grin

GardenerGran Fri 12-Feb-21 15:40:46

Yep same problem here. DH rang 119 and they told him to try tomorrow or if not Monday. Another cock-up.

suziewoozie Fri 12-Feb-21 16:25:54

FGS stop. So a letter goes out a bit early and you spend two minutes of your previous time when otherwise you would be saving the world logging on to find it’s too early. I am just extremely grateful for the amazing roll out programme - just be grateful for once. (OP this is not aimed at you - you gave some useful information, )

Juliet27 Fri 12-Feb-21 16:32:55

I could have had my vaccination earlier but waited for the call from the surgery giving me the times and dates of both appts and which type I’d be having. Was local rather than having to travel out of area.

Like suziewoozie I get a bit annoyed with the throwaway comment Another cock-up.

The vaccine rollout was referred to yesterday as "the biggest peacetime logistical challenge ever" and people complain when their letters arrive early.

angry

Jane43 Fri 12-Feb-21 16:39:35

I doubt if it is a cock up. DH said he heard there is a problem with supplies of the vaccine so perhaps they want to wait until they have enough of the vaccine before making appointments. Our experience when booking a few weeks ago and having the vaccination last Monday was that everything is very well organised.

GardenerGran Fri 12-Feb-21 16:45:58

Can I just say I think the vaccine roll-out is amazing, we are extremely thankful to be getting the vaccine and think all involved in developing it are amazing. But the letter was dated the 4th of Feb, they’ve obvs just sent them all at once without getting the systems updated first and the staff at 119 were equally frustrated that this has happened and are being inundated with folk trying to book through the them which is not possible as they use the same system. It’s just admin, and not rocket science. But feel free to pile in on me.

Alegrias1 Fri 12-Feb-21 16:53:08

OK then, I'll have a go at the pile on.

Its just admin. Organising 14 million injections in less than 6 weeks. In the middle of winter when letters are often taking longer that usual to arrive. What would you have said if the letter had been late?

The over seventies had to queue in the snow this week where I live and most of them put up with it because they know what a huge undertaking this whole, logistical event is. A woman in Dundee walked through the snow for 90 minutes to get her jab because she didn't want to miss it. But your letter was early. You could have said that it cost you some time, but that you understand how complicated it all is. But no. It's a cock up.

Sorry, no sympathy.

All over 65s can book online from today. I was on the NHS website like a shot! I had been feeling a bit miffed as DH, who is a year younger than me, had already had a text invitation a few days ago. Now he’s miffed because I’ve booked my second jab too but he was just told to wait until contacted nearer the time.

growstuff Fri 12-Feb-21 17:05:43

Where is that info tidyskatemum? I must have missed it.

tidyskatemum Fri 12-Feb-21 17:26:50

I read it on Facebook growstuff then went on the website, put in my details and it let me choose where and when.

It doesn’t matter - you know what is a cock up? Countries that have front line health workers caring for COVId patients and said workers not bring vaccinated or having proper PPE and rich nations not helping

grandMattie Fri 12-Feb-21 17:31:49

I did the same as our surgery didn't bother organising anything at all! It took TV interviews and a national paper article to get them to pull their finger out.
Been done and have my second vax date too.

Thank you.

Thank you all for your responses, and hopefully it saved some of you ringing 119.
It is an incredible achievement to have vaccinated so many, and I am definitely not complaining.
I'm afraid I said they could vaccinate my bare bum outside in the car park if that's what it took to get one. Not sure I will live that remark down!

Alegrias1 Fri 12-Feb-21 20:37:16

We want pictures Santana!

Thanks for letting us know (about the 119 call, not about your bum grin)

Callistemon Fri 12-Feb-21 20:42:19

At least it wasn't in Welsh!

FlexibleFriend Fri 12-Feb-21 21:12:15

I haven't had a letter but had two texts, one from st Thomas's hospital and one from my GP, I've booked my appointment for Sunday morning.

Kamiso Fri 12-Feb-21 21:28:14

My OH booked his jab via the link on this thread. He got to choose from various locations and picked a suitable time. I had a phone call from the surgery offering me a date and time. I got the impression I could have asked for a different one if necessary. The organisation was excellent with stewards at every turn directing me in and out. OH had to wait in the car and had settled down to read the paper but I was back in about 10 minutes.

farview Fri 12-Feb-21 22:03:15

I got my letter today,lunchtime...but had had my vaccine at 9.30a.m ...same happened with H...crossed wires somewhere!!!!

ayse Fri 12-Feb-21 22:12:07

I haven’t had a letter but a phone call from my medical practice on Wednesday of this week. I’m going tomorrow to the surgery where a bus will take us to the vaccination centre on the other side of town and later return us to the surgery. I’m amazed at how well our local service has operated. It saved on postage and paper as well. Very pleased.

grannyactivist Fri 12-Feb-21 23:57:47

There are a lot of very elderly people in my town and a lot of nursing/care homes, but the service has been amazing and the shielding group have now been contacted. I’m having my vaccination on Monday and I’m very excited!

Scentia Sat 13-Feb-21 00:00:50

DH got a text and just had to reply yes he wanted it, then they text through a load of times available on Sunday, he just chose a time and got a text confirming appointment on Sunday. I feel lucky our area seems to have a good system in place.
