Has anyone heard of the possibility that there may not be enough vaccine for getting 2nd doses within 12 weeks

I've just had someone mention this on social media. I can't find any information beyond this:

Oliver Dowden, the UK’s secretary of state for culture, has claimed the government is confident it won’t run out of the Covid-19 vaccine doses needed to give Brits their second jab, despite delivery delays.

And I can't say I have much confidence in what government ministers say.

In our area many of the vaccination centres ate closing until supplies are available just leaving ones open for second jabs

Here we are booked in for a second jab automatically 12 weeks after the first. No earlier, though. They told us 12 weeks was the recommended time. Mind you they all make up whatever suits them, don’t they ?

No Nanna8, they don't.

They make scientifically based decisions.

JustMe
I’m coming up six weeks since first.

And I’m seven weeks and I’m not either worried or fussing. Some people have waited longer than six or seven weeks, and the government said twelve weeks.
It’s all a lot of fuss over nothing, everyone will get their second jab in due course as there is apparently enough for everyone. My 42 year old son had his first at the weekend.
I’ve heard over 70s will probably get a third jab in the Autumn to tackle new variants. We are lucky in this country. Just be patient.

I should add that my vaccination was done at the GP surgery. Both appointments were made when the surgery rang me.

Well here in Scotland we are getting our second lot to-morrow .

maddyone oh yes, I'm not worried and not expecting anything at this early stage. As long as I get it at 12 weeks, I'm fine about it all.
It's a huge logistical exercise smile

That’s good JustMe you and I will probably get our second doses about the same time if you’re six weeks and I’m seven weeks since the first. I’ve already had Covid but am very pleased to receive the vaccine - Pfizer in my case.

JustMe Tue 30-Mar-21 20:58:18

I'm Pfizer too!
Second week May 12 weeks and hopefully done by then.

They are working on just one jab, I hope that comes to fruition to save so much hard work.

12 weeks from first would bring me to 17th April. However, had a message this morning to book now formy second dose. Managed to get an appointment this evening. Very happy. Moderna ones

Text from the GP surgery today offering me an appointment at their vaccination hub on April 18th for my second dose of AZ vaccine, it will be 11 weeks after the first. Happy with that.

I have just had a message inviting me for my second jab. I had the first one on 15th January

My second Pfizer is booked less than 11 weeks after my first. It seems to be running very efficiently.

Phoned Mum's surgery today to book 2nd dose (she is 85). They have no vaccines and don't know if/when they will get them. Now don't know what to do. I have to phone again next week so will have to wait.

If you live in England, you could book her into one of the hubs using the NHS site. When you put in her details, it will know she’s due her second.

Elaine1 if your Mum had her fist dose at the GP’s or a GP hub she has to wait to be contacted. It’s not possible to book through the NHS booking site.

I just tried and this is the message I received after putting in my details.

JustMe Fri 02-Apr-21 12:03:50

Yes, I'm exactly the same, I get that message too. I was contacted by my surgery and have to wait for them to contact me.

I live in Surrey - I had my first vaccine at my GPs. I just went onto the NHS site and got offered several centres for my second ( I’m 8 weeks post 1st vaccine). The thing to do is try yourself Elaine as it clearly varies in different areas. No one answer. Worth a try

The surgery texted me yesterday and I've got my 2nd jab booked for next week, eleven weeks after the 1st one.

grannysyb Fri 02-Apr-21 18:05:32

DH had his second Pfizer jab yesterday, his first was 14th January, I get my second one next Friday, my first one was January 20th.

SueDonim Fri 02-Apr-21 20:03:47

My dh’s second jab has been brought forward by three weeks so there doesn’t seem to be a shortage in this area.

growstuff Fri 02-Apr-21 20:27:36

It doesn't seem as though there are actual shortages ... maybe some hiccoughs in communication.

lemsip Fri 02-Apr-21 21:08:26

The vaccines come through in batches . They are not there ready and waiting. They contact you when a new batch comes through.
I'm having second Pfizer vaccine next wednesday 7th april. first was 19th january.
no shortages .
