Why are arrivals from India not being sent to quarantine hotels?

I saw in the news this morning that New Zealand have temporarily suspended flights from India due to the rapidly escalating Covid rate. (Prior to this all arrivals from India and from anywhere else had to go to a quarantine hotel for 2 weeks).
Here in the UK, not only are flights still coming in from India, but passengers don't even have to go into the quarantine hotels and are allowed to go home to self-isolate.

Where were they going?

I've not seen so many for months, it was extraordinary.

It’s late, but this will tell you where all of the planes are going

That’s fascinating. And very frightening.

Thanks Summerlove I will take a look.

They all seemed to be heading west, not east.

What is? That we can track planes? Or how many there are?

Seeing how many people are travelling all over the world in the middle of a pandemic. That could have been nipped in the bud if people had just stopped flying all over the world for a short time last year.

You're mad. What's wrong with your government? Unbelievable stupidity.

Said the woman whose government has only reached 25% of its vaccine targets.

Glass houses.

That maybe so but given that the whole of Australia has had less than 10,000 cases of CV and under 1,000 deaths in total I think our lockdowns and other measures say more than a vaccination program that has not been as ideal as one would hope.

Glass houses indeed!

What vaccination program? Ours is useless. A few of us who are older have been ‘done’ but we had to chase it ourselves, they certainly didn’t chase us. Meanwhile many front line workers are waiting, waiting. We are good at the lockdowns but not the prevention. WA is currently locked down for just one case which, ‘conspiracy theory alert ‘ involves a person from a country that we have deeply offended and appears to want to punish us. That’ll unleash the righteous amongst us but it is very strange timing.

Read the Full Thread.

There was a discussion on the subject after the post you commented on.

You are still fully entitled to post of course. Just thought you might be interested in what was said subsequently.

Sometimes in this short life one just can’t be stuffed as they say.

The vaccination programme in Britain has been excellent, so has the vaccination programme in Israel. America is doing well I believe, but of course they have many more people to vaccinate. My American friends received both their vaccines early this year.
The lockdowns in Australia have worked well, but will certainly not work as soon as Australia opens up. For that a population needs vaccination. We live in a global society and lockdowns, whilst effective, only have limited value, and no value long term. Vaccination is the only way for long term control of the virus.

I have “read the full thread “. Can anyone explain why there is a weeks delay between expressing concern about another countries Covid status , and implementing the hotel, quarantine rule? Is the government actuallly inviting people in India to book their last minute flights or private charters to beat the deadline? How kind.
When most of us are being compliant with lock down rules , it’s enough to make people say Sod it! Why should we bother?!
