Getting a little concerned about the mood music that seems to be in the air regarding this variant. There are over 700 confirmed cases, it seems to spread 60% more rapidly. I notice that in some areas well over 50% of new cases are of this variant and SAGE are having an emergency meeting this afternoon to discuss. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water??

Yes it is worrying especially with various venues opening up next week.

Kali2 Thu 13-May-21 17:52:09

Very concerning, as it could totally overturn the vaccination success.

This hits children too. It's not good is it ?
Brought in from incoming travellers.

A family member of the corner shop I go to had flown in from Sri Lanka at the beginning of last month. So far no new cases of anything----fingers crossed.

Good news, absolutely the correct way to
go, I really hope the take-up is high.

Seems to be centred in certain towns lets hope they stop it in its tracks
But aa long as hospital admissions do not rise or deaths then it is obviously being dealt with by the vaccine

JaneJudge Thu 13-May-21 18:58:12

what about the road map?

It will take at least 3 weeks to find that out. And just as long for the first dose of vaccine to take effect.

No change at the moment would not think they would change unless hospital admissions increase
Hopefully the vacinne will deal with it

rosie1959 Thu 13-May-21 19:04:31

I hope Maybee70 that as the most at risk groups have had their vaccine and probably their second it should help

Kali2 Thu 13-May-21 19:08:53

we do not know who this varian will deal with the vaccine- hence the true and real worry.

Casdon Thu 13-May-21 19:14:54

It said on the news tonight that there is confidence that this variant is controlled by the vaccine, the problem is that younger people aren’t yet vaccinated, so it will continue to spread until they are also protected, hence the vaccine programme being targeted there.

That's the risk the Government took when they gave travellers several days notice about flights from India and invited an Indian delegation to the G7 summit. Extremely risky and now the chickens are coming home to roost.

Urmstongran Thu 13-May-21 19:18:54

It’s close here too. In nearby Bolton figures a surging. The news reports this variant is much more easily transmissible than the Kent one.

It’s worrying. It feels like Groundhog Day.

Yes, good to get the younger ones there vaccinated, it’s the only way to keep it controlled.

It may well be that the towns with the Indian variant have to stay in lockdown a bit longer, or at least delay pubs and cafes opening if necessary.

I think there are more cases here than in Sri Lanka although one case was detected there.

Cant really see that would help people will just go to the next town not in lockdown

It’s spreading in London. The figures in Bromley don’t look good.

EllanVannin Thu 13-May-21 19:57:51

Close the damned airports and be done with---Australia won't allow anyone in.

What are the figures in Bromley?

I agree. Why is anyone allowed to fly in? Having been in one form of lockdown or another since October, I just want to be able to go out for coffee with a friend indoors. It’s not much to ask.

I can’t see my family in NZ at least till next year so why are we talking about and booking trips abroad? It’s so upsetting when we have done everything asked of us.

As an aside, my DD in NZ mentioned in passing that every shop she visits, she has to sign in with an app. Apparently in NZ they have track and trace well organised.

We seem to be the only country allowing the germs in shock
