What helps you to stay positive?

With all this situation we all need some postivity. What makes you feel better? My list consists of going for a walk before the crowds, doing some sports, cooking things I usually don't have time for and reading Gransnet, haha! What are your tips?

Accept this is in for the long term?

I have been through a stir-crazy phase (and doubtless there will be more) but I’m getting more sleep now and I’ve lost a couple of pounds. So I’m telling myself (kidding myself?) that I might comic out of this slimmer and with a more laid-back approach to life?

I must have a permanent positive outlook. I always feel good so don't need to make myself feel better.

Having plenty of ongoing projects and taking a long walk every day keeps me occupied.

I agree with Beechnut about the news - very tedious at present.

We just need patience to wait things out. I'm looking forward to summer 2021!

A little humour along the way is what helps me. That and as little news as possible. I love the accidental typo/ autocorrect Pikachu 'comic out of this slimmer', perhaps we can all try to laugh excess weight off.

With me it’s enjoying the simple things - sitting in the garden, listening to the birds, seeing plants starting to grow after the winter, a walk in the woods, enjoying a good book or film and counting your blessings

Only one helping of news per day. Going for a walk. Pottering in the garden. Reading. TV. It's made me take stock, I've always been doing, running around. Fear of missing out FOC, that was me and it was hard work. I when this is over, will not go back to the old ways.

Have come to the conclusion that the radio news is more palatable and down to earth than the TV .

I go up and down but coping. I chat intermittently with my school friend's group on WhatsApp. Three of them are on full lock down. I have put out a jigsaw for Mr LD and that has helped as he was getting a bit grumpy.

Can't be worse than the Big Brother house.

Mindfulness, long telephone calls with friends and family, my daily walk and exercise routine and cuddles with my little dog. Not spending too much time on social media and only checking in to the news once a day. However I still have the occasional wobble.

Reminding myself I can choose to be positive or not. Yes, the occasional wobble but generally trying not to dwell on what I can’t do. A new routine is helping, practical stuff in the morning, a leisurely lunch then a walk. Looking for the humour in everything, from a duck on the river to the paint on Mr C’s nose via the antics of the children on FaceTime. News just once a day. Relishing the time to talk to friends and family on the phone, some I’ve not chatted with for months. Mindfulness and relaxation strategies. Keeping a distant eye on frail neighbours, adding their things to food deliveries to help a bit. It’s quite hard work sometimes smile.

Just seen a news report about the stresses and strains of self isolation. It reported that people are going crazy from being in lock down!
It was strange, actually, because I had just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster and all of us agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she always has to put a different spin on everything, and certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant. In the end the iron calmed me down. She said everything will be fine, which surprised me because she’s usually the first one to apply unnecessary pressure and get steamed up over nothing

I'm turning the TV off when the news time comes. Really, that makes me feel much better! Also walking and reading books or something online (except for some stuff about corona). My DD taught me how to make photo collages, so I'm doing it too. All these things do distract me really well.

I think it is crucial to be able to adapt to new situations (and this sure is a new situation).
I have adapted to different types of work marriage, having three children, my oldest child dying parents dying sister-in-law dying niece dying...and husband dying.....now I am a widow in my late seventies and again learning to adapt. I can do it!

Thanks MawB, it's good to laugh. I'm talking to the cat. He seems quite understanding, although he was a bit confused at first that I am now here all day, everyday! We have fun watching birds out of the window. And I'm actually finding it a break from some of the things I am involved in "outside" which can be stressful at times. There's always a silver lining. smile

I make sure I watch Eascape to the chateau DIY at 4pm on channel 4 every day. It's a delight. I'm also using up a huge stash of yarn by knitting for charity.

I can stay positive because I KNOW that when this has passed, and it will pass, we will all have changed and ours will be a better world to live in.
We, spiritual minded people, have known that there was a shift coming and now it is here we simply must change the way we treat our planet and each other.

A bit more lighthearted I know but as we are now having groceries delivered to home, my DH has taken over the ordering and better still the paying and has realised how much food and household goods cost. Every cloud has a silver lining!

Because many of us are retired, we have already found enjoyable activities and hobbies at home. ( missing shopping though!)I am finding online children quizzes which I send to my son and then we FaceTime the quizzes one for a 10 year old one for a 5 year old.
Connecting more with my children on a WhatsApp group and my spanish group learning to zoom !!
