Elaborate?? Uplifting? Loved This? confused

Wife and me love our Ballrom Dancing; and a Thursday afternoon tea dance.

Anyone else ??

ffinnochio Sun 31-Aug-14 10:46:38

Nytsom Not sure why you're confused. I found it uplifting because it was a lighthearted look at how the enjoyment of dancing is shared across the globe.
No, it isn't ballroom, nor any other specific type of dancing, just a host of different cultures coming together and feeling happy. Nowt confusing about that.

I'm pleased you have a happy time Ballroom dancing.

It is lovely to see people enjoying dancing, but if I were to be honest (and a pain in the butt!) I would have preferred a similar video showing each nation dancing in its own way and being proud of its cultural heritage, rather than the paternalism of some guy (I am guessing American) swanning round the world getting people to dance in HIS way and produce that sort of amorphous western wiggling about that is in fact not acceptable to many cultures.

Sorry!

Nytsom Sun 31-Aug-14 11:01:09

FFinnochio,

Sorry; the confusion was your post of only 1,word! Elaborate was asking you to fill in the story for a better understanding of your post.

Sorry!

ffinnochio Sun 31-Aug-14 11:02:25

No need to apologise Mishap smile, and although there was a fair bit of western wiggling, (nothing wrong in that nor being American), there were some traditional dances where the western wiggler joined in - even a bit of Scottish dancing.

Just a bit of fun.

I loved that, thank you.

janerowena Sun 31-Aug-14 11:49:17

I loved it too.

ninathenana Sun 31-Aug-14 17:36:48

Me to, made me wish I'd been able to join in.

Was it in aid of something?

It must have cost a bob or two so I wonder how it was funded.

Why did the Syrians have their faces blanked out?

I agree with Mishap

janeainsworth Sun 31-Aug-14 19:03:04

Thank you Ffinn. I liked it too, and the idea that the enjoyment of music and dance can take people away from their troubles.

rubysong Sun 31-Aug-14 19:32:24

He could have come to our belly dancing class! I think it was sad the Syrians had their faces obscured but possibly dancing is considered 'unislamic' in some areas and they could suffer if they were recognised.

Good to see people just having a good time - even in North Korea!

Eloethan Sun 31-Aug-14 23:47:43

I suppose we've all got so used to there being a "hidden agenda" to everything that we view such things with suspicion. Perhaps it was marketing the theme song. Anyway, though I can see Mishap's point, I have to say I found it quite touching and hope I'm not being naive.

A friend of mine and his young son were part of the crowd in the Manchester video, and I've now found the link on his FB page to Matt and Melissa's (the organisers) website.

www.wherethehellismatt.com/about

It was originally funded by a toothpaste manufacturer, and if you click on the donate page you will find links to the many small charities that are supported.

janerowena Mon 01-Sep-14 11:30:37

Oh well done! I thought he must be a travel agent!

ffinnochio Mon 01-Sep-14 11:59:08

Thanks for the extra info, Janeain smile. I hadn't got that far. I love dancing, it made me happy, so I just posted the link.

janeainsworth Mon 01-Sep-14 12:14:09

Me too, Ffinn smile
