I've been playing a CD of Chris Barber, and remembering him and his band playing at dances in the Student Union way back in umty-um. We used to do a (very) slow foxtrot to Monty Sunshine's solo of this a jive to him and Pat Halcox perfectly synchronising chimes on trumpet and clarinet in this and really let ourselves go to this

Couldn't resist posting them!

Fabulous, Elegran.
I noticed today that Chris Barber is coming to the Sage in Gateshead and you've spurred me on to get tickets smile
Particularly like the jive one.

Nope! Don't remember any of those. But I do remember this one

Very danceable. In fact I have just been dancing round the room to it.

Oh yes jingl smile

It sort of changes the rhythm a bit as it goes along, doesn't it.
One minute you're foxtrotting, the next it's maybe more of a rumba.

Or perhaps I'm overthinking it grin

Petite Fleur was written by Sidney Bechet (another great). Apparently he wrote to Monty Sunshine to thank him for what he had done to it.

Jane do you mean the Chimes Blues? Ilove that. The reason I have this particular CD of Chris Barber (I already had others, and vinyl too) is because daughter and son-in-law went to his concert and I had gone on so about the Chimes that they brought me back a CD with it on. Sadly, they didn't play the Chimes at the concert - I think it was a Monty Sunshine special.

All these are a good cure for the blues (in spite of being labelled blues music).

Yes, the Chime Blues.
When we were in North Carolina last month we went to a Beach Club where they do a dance called the Carolina Shag. (I kid you not). The steps are like jive, but you're supposed to keep your hips level with the floor so it's a bit more restrained.
The Chime Blues would be perfect for it.

As soon as I read that I had 'Petite Fleur' running through my head!

Just got back from the Chris Barber concert - fantastic.
