No idea where to post this- so here it is in 'culture'. A town near me in Switzerland is twinned with Sidmouth. It always makes me laugh, as the two towns could not be more different in a 1000 of ways. Heard yesterday that the group from Sidmouth coming in September in time for the lovely Neuchâtel wine harvest festival- will be coming to visit our local Museum about the history of Absinthe- and I'll be one of the guides. Will any of you be there?

Well, I asked Mr. Google for information about Le Locle and the only similarity I could see was The World Heritage Site connection.
Sadly I don't live anywhere near Sidmouth so won't be visiting your lovely area.
We did however spend a week in Sidmouth last year, we visited years ago when the children were small and found it very staid and old 'peoplish'. We visited again two years ago, well Exmouth actually for our step-grandson's passing out parade and found we had grown into it , hence the holiday last year.
We are now those old people!.
Make sure they all have plenty of Absinthe and they won't know (or care) where they are.

Le Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds are very unusual- in as much as they were purpose built in the 19C on the American grid system- and for the purpose of an emerging industry- watch-making. Not that easy on the eye, until you start to look more closely- as both are full or Art Nouveau features- and were of course made even more famous by the work of several Art Nouveau artists- and later the architect, Le Corbusier.

Poor old Sidmouth doesn't stand a chance really does it?

Encourage your 'twinners' to go to Sidmouth during the folk festival. It isn't a bit staid then!

Afraid we didn`t care too much for Sidmouth on a day out there a few years ago, when we were staying in Combe Martin. We`d been attracted by the only pictures that are ever published of Sidmouth, the great red sandstone(?) cliffs at the end of the bay. They`re beautiful, but that`s where the attraction ended.

My mum and Dad loved Sidmouth and had many happy holidays there.
My dad drove there for a weeks holiday in 2001 the year before he died.

They went from Cheshire to Leicester to pick up my aunty and then down to Sidmouth via my sister in Bristol.
Dad was 86 my aunt 84 my mum 82.
He should not have gone as my mum was then getting very anxious with dementia but my dad was not one to be put off by anything.

This was a round trip of 600miles
Intrepid (or Foolish) were the words I thought of.
