Re the desensitisation therapy, it's only really practical when there is a strictly circumscribed list of risks to consider, and bags of time available to train. Most people have limited time, and a huge list of potential hazards, but it's ok if you can do it for yourself, like with the spiders. Imagine how long it would take to train everyone for the possibility of being in a concert hall when gunmen burst in though, then being in a train crash, then an infectious disease epidemic, then a major storm, then a...........
