If you need cheering up in these wintry Brexit days here's one that always makes me smile:

Even Bob Dylan smiles at times.

Joyce Grenfell -" Stately as a Galleon", I just love that one.

Without doubt for me is Pharel Williams "Happy"
I went to see Stevie Wonder in Hyde Park with my youngest son & Pharel Williams was a supporting act. I hear this I am transported to that lovely, summers day in London

And another very old one from me - I think the little man looks like John Bercow:

I love Pharell Williams “Happy”, too. Lovely to dance round the kitchen and sing along!

Fennel thank you
I'm smiling at the memory of my Grandpa standing in front of a little black and white TV dancing (his version) to Andy Stewart's

Flower of Scotland sung at rugby internationals.
Love it!

Was wondering if we could use our mature savvy and ignore anyone who makes a snide comment? Witty and accurate though many of the retorts are, I feel that's just what the sad people are looking for. My Mother used to say 'ignore them and they'll go away'. Lovely and nostalgically fun contributions in the main for which I thank you all GNs.

Brilliant - They are still playing "The White Cliffs of Dover" in most care homes. Won't it be great when they are playing classics like this?

GabriellaG Mon 19-Nov-18 13:58:38

That OP 'song' is sooo boring, tuneless...and daft.

sarahellenwhitney Mon 19-Nov-18 14:07:32

What a boring place the world would be without such a variety of languages.

gillybob, two now I think ?

I think Jeff Lynne is one of the most talented performers going. ELO are great, fantastic songs.

I have lots of songs that make me smile but coming home from M&S today I had one on that made me weep buckets: the theme to Out of Africa. I don't know why it makes me so sad, I've never been to Africa or had any connection!

grannyqueenie Mon 19-Nov-18 14:14:33

“Just another manic Monday ....” springs to mind.....perhaps with more of grimace than a smile after reading a few comments here!!

gillybob Mon 19-Nov-18 14:21:45

I've posted a link to The Last Resort by The Eagles (under the title Paradise). It has always been one of my favourite Eagles songs but given recent events in California, the words are much more meaningful and very sad.

Luckygirl Mon 19-Nov-18 14:33:14

Who was that deadpan man who wrote slightly rude but very funny songs? - Jake Thackery - it has just come back to me! I liked him.

Willow10 Mon 19-Nov-18 14:35:50

Daddima - it was Frank Kelly, thank you! Just listened to your link and it was still just as funny!

gullygranny My GD gets me to do my version of Joyce Grenfell's "Stately as a Galleon" it has always made me smile.

So many songs here make me smile and I can always manage a little jig to Eddie Grants "Walking on Sunshine".

Thanks for a lovely thread. I've smiled at many of the suggestions, not a bad thing on a cold and rainy Monday afternoon.
