Yes Florabunda, we must keep trying.

I personally want to ring in "the larger heart, the kindlier hand". Not always easy.

Thank you ga.
Sometimes it’s hard to remain hopeful, but hope and love are all we have in the end.

Let's get trying.....

A lovely poem grannyactivist. Thank you.

It's as apt today as it was 169 years ago, isn't it?

Life and mankind - we become more enlightened, supposedly, as the years go by, but some things just don't change.

Glad you liked this poem as much as I do. smile

Ring Out Wild Bells. Was published 1850

Oh for the touch of a vanished hand is from his poem

Break,Break,Bresk. Which was published in 1842

Oh, it's not going to happen though, is it? Nothing's changed. #despair

I think that is part of In Memoriam. Tennyson was mourning for his recently dead friend. There is another part to the poem, "But oh for the touch of a vanished hand, and the sound of a voice that is still". (There is a lot more as well) Very beautiful.

Thanks Grannya.

So long since I've heard or read those beautiful words grannyactivist would that we could make it come true.

I hope you like Tennyson’s beautiful and hopeful elegy to Arthur Henry Hallam, published in 1850.

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky
The flying cloud, the frosty light
The year is dying in the night
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die
Ring out the old, ring in the new
Ring, happy bells, across the snow
The year is going, let him go
Ring out the false, ring in the true
Ring out the grief that saps the mind
For those that here we see no more
Ring out the feud of rich and poor
Ring in redress to all mankind
Ring out a slowly dying cause
And ancient forms of party strife
Ring in the nobler modes of life
With sweeter manners, purer laws
Ring out the want, the care, the sin
The faithless coldness of the times
Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes
But ring the fuller minstrel in
Ring out false pride in place and blood
The civic slander and the spite
Ring in the love of truth and right
Ring in the common love of good
Ring out old shapes of foul disease
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold
Ring out the thousand wars of old
Ring in the thousand years of peace
Ring in the valiant man and free
The larger heart, the kindlier hand
Ring out the darkness of the land
Ring in the Christ that is to be
