I am new to Gransnet and have just started trying to diet with XLS. I didn't want to use pills but feel that I need something to kickstart my weight loss. Am on my fourth day now and must say that I have not had my usual huger pangs and cravings so fingers crossed. Anyone else tried XLS? smile

Not something I've tried, or even heard of, to be honest.

Nandalot welcome to GN, no I have not heard of XLS, personally I prefer to control my weight with what I eat and increase the energy I use.

Hello Nandalot, welcome to GN

This is from the Boots' website:

"The following groups of people should not take XLS-Medical Fat Binder.

Those who:

Are pregnant or likely to become pregnant
Are breastfeeding
Have a BMI of less than 18.5
Eat liver or liver products once a week, with other products containing retinol (as XLS-Medical also contains vitamin A as retinol)
Are at risk of osteoporosis (post-menopausal women and older people) "

It also says:
"XLS-Medical is a proven weight loss aid. If you consume 500 calories a day fewer than the recommended intake, exercise and take XLS-Medical according to the instructions, you should find that, after 12 weeks, you will have lost significantly more weight than you would have done through dropping calories and increasing exercise alone."

However, if you reduce your calorie intake by 500 a day and exercise, you will lose weight anyway.

It sounds a bit risky to me if you are post-menopausal.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for all your comments. I agree with everyone about taking the tablets but believe me this is a last ditch attempt to get control. I am only going to take it for a short time to try and control my cravings which are my downfall. It seems to do that. Yesterday I watched my daughter eat cake without any feeling of temptation. Yes, I am post-menopausal but I think that to lose some weight (I daren't tell you all what I weigh) will be better for my health in the long run.
I weighed today and have lost two pounds so a start.

Nandalot why not join our weekly weigh-in thread? - just look in the diet forums or you will definitely find it in today's list - Weigh-in for Monday March 11th.
Glassortwo runs this faithfully for us every week and takes part herself. We all get support and encouragement from each other when the going is tough and bags of praise when losses are reported.
We're a friendly bunch and you don't have to admit your actual weight if you don't want to. We weigh at various times in the week depending upon what classes (if any) we go to and it is so encouraging when you have the support of others who are also trying so hard especially when we feel like we're getting nowhere!
Give us a go - I will watch for your name to appear! I have just had a period of time-out and now have loads to lose so I am right behind you girl!!! flowers

nandalot I am another one who doesn't like taking pills as I believe that although they may have a benefit they also always seem to have side effects.

As sba says, join us on the weekly weigh in and you will get lots of support. I would also suggest you try www.myfitnesspal.com which many of us use. It seems to recognise everything we eat and will tell you not only how many calories you consume but fat, protien etc. Once you have set it up it will recommend how many calories you should have each day and at the end of each day's entries will tell you what you will weigh in 5 weeks if you continue to eat in the same way. DH and I both use it and as he does all the cooking we are now eating more sensibly than we were before he went on it. He is now totally addicted the the Hairy Dieter's book and we are having some lovely meals smile

and I thought I was the only one with a husband who does lots of the cooking and has discovered the Hairy Dieters! we are having some delicious meals and the scales are creeping downwards. But now it is snowing, so a hot cross bun teatime treat will ruin todays calorie intake . ho hum!

Movedalot Mon 11-Mar-13 17:17:48

MrsJJ now he is in charge he tells me what he is doing as if I didn't do the cooking for 43 years! I'm happy to keep out the kitchen and leave him to it. The meals are delicious.

Thanks again everyone - will definitely take a look at the weekly weigh in.

Lots in common with all of you. J08 I like Merlin too - shame no more - and agree nansalot would be a good name.

Also my husband also does much more cooking than me. But if we both ate Hairy Dieters meals he would disappear. He is the lucky sort who can eat absolutely everything and not put on an inch!

Will try the weigh in on Monday - but away for a long overdue weekend break but I shall try to be good!
