Well, that's that then. It's all arranged. For me at least. Booked the hotel to stay in when I take my son to university! I was going to pay for someone to take him with all his belongings but it would have worked out the same money for me to be away in a nice hotel for a couple of nights so chose that option instead.

So he has to get the grades enough now to get in. No pressure then. grin

Where is he going to Ruby? Is it a long way for you?

rosesarered Mon 27-Jun-16 09:38:55

....and they have so much stuff to take with them.

Welshwife Mon 27-Jun-16 09:43:54

If you think he has a lot to take with him wait till you see what he has to bring home at the end of the year!
When he knows the Uni and the sort of housing he will be in think about how many weeks you take - DS opted for the fewer weeks option the first year but it was a dreadful job emptying out his room etc and getting all his stuff away - after that he always opted to have the full year to enable him to leave everything in his old room or move to his new before leaving for the holiday. It also gives options if he needs to stay later than term ends or go back earlier.
Hope he gets his grades.

My DS was offered a place at Sunderland University, he was also offered a place at Lincoln. We lived in Cumbria at the time, which place did he choose, Lincoln of course grin. When he went for the first time, we loaded up the car with all his stuff, took him to his house share, and then went to Skegness for the weekend. Lovely!

Good luck to you and your son, ruby.

Around here (city) everyone just heads to the local Tesco to pick up household stuff en-route to the University.

Saves stuffing the car, I suppose..

Is he going into the Halls? My daughter did that in her first year. Although it was a big initial lay out it was worth it because she was guaranteed to have breakfast and an evening meal, electricity, wifi, heating and hot water even if/when she ran out of money.

I've just booked an extra night at the hotel, lovely. Hot bubble baths, room service, nice big bed, ground floor, restaurant with bar, I can't wait. I am normally in B&B or caravans, never a hotel so it will be wonderful to treat myself. I can re charge and then come home after a break. (Change the locks, maybe even move house! grin)

Now, my DS. Yes, he is going into Halls. He has chosen a room with an en suite and kitchen for himself. It's like being on permanent holiday! Hardly the tiny room my ED had when she went 10 years ago. I think I have treated him too well. He has chose the 40 weeks option but can stay for summer if he chooses to at the time so we will cross that bridge when we come to it. He is well equipped to wash his own clothes in the on site launderette so I don't think he will be lugging dirty washing home to be honest. It is quite far, in Wales to go, three hours in a car, six hours on a train. I'm sure he will manage, he's been trained well, although when someone else will do it for him, he will let them, of course. grin

I am looking forward to starting a new life although I will be on here moaning that I am missing him, regardless of the problems we have had, I will miss him like mad. Being a mum I suppose. smile

Anyone else's offspring going to uni this year? flowers

rubylady Mon 27-Jun-16 15:44:54

Cambridge in Wales.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 27-Jun-16 15:48:50

We had some lovely holidays visiting our three at the various places they were at. Son was in Wales Rublady at Bangor. We used to stay on Anglesey.

Alea Mon 27-Jun-16 16:29:09

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universities

Please explain!! There are 8 universities in Wales, I cannot see one which is called Cambridge confused

Alea Mon 27-Jun-16 16:43:08

Sorry about the cr*p link, goodness knows what that was all about, just ignore!!
But seriously, is there really a Cambridge in Wales?(well at least since the Duke and Duchess moved off Anglesey) grin
How confusing-or is there a Welsh name which is a translation of Cambridge and you are just 'avin' a larf??

gettingonabit Mon 27-Jun-16 17:06:40

I think she's 'avin a larfgrin. C'mon, where???

Ana Mon 27-Jun-16 17:09:49

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_universities_in_Wales

Can't see any name remotely like Cambridge! grin

Ana Mon 27-Jun-16 17:12:33

Although there is Coleg Cambria, which is I think an FE College.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 27-Jun-16 17:13:36

Shut the fuck up and leave her alone.

Nannylovesshopping Mon 27-Jun-16 17:17:00

jbf couldn't agree more

Alea Mon 27-Jun-16 20:33:00

Only taking a polite interest!
Blimey! State secret or what? hmm

vampirequeen Mon 27-Jun-16 22:06:50

My daughter went to Hull University but studied in Scarborough. The campus isn't always where the name of the university suggests.

Alea Mon 27-Jun-16 22:18:00

True, Warwick /Coventry is like that isn't it?

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 27-Jun-16 22:25:29

Warwick uni is on the outskirts of Coventry. Coventry uni is in the city centre (it used to be the Lanchester Poly until 1987).

Alea Mon 27-Jun-16 22:28:50

I think that was (roughly) what I meant.

However, the University of Cambridge to Wales (or vice versa) is a heck of a bike ride!!!grin

WilmaKnickersfit Mon 27-Jun-16 22:46:53

I was just chipping in! grin
