I did the "Introduction to Forensic Science" course. Over six weeks, we gradually heard more about the evidence in a murder case, from the blodstains and fingerprints to the trajectory of the bullets. It was based on a real case. That was excellent too, lots of factual stuff about the different types of forensic evidence and how it is detected and analysed, interspersed with interviews with the people involved and accounts of how the results of tests threw light on what had happened (and on the discrepancies in witness statements.

It does show up the mistakes in detective stories!

Nxt week I am signed up to start the "Forensic Psychology" course, on what people say and what they mean.
I am looking out for "Identifying the dead" too.

I did the 'Introduction' one as well Elegran - that was a Scottish university as well, wasn't it? The Forensic Psychology one sounds interesting, I'll have a look at it.

Your post triggered me to look for Identifying the Dead - the next run of it starts on November 7th. I have signed up.

This sounds right up my street, but do you have to complete modules within a specified time? I sometimes find that ME makes it hard to sit and concentrate for a length of time at one stretch.

Absolutely not MiniMouse. Most courses stay active for several months, and you can complete them in your own time. Why don't you try one and see how you get on? They are free and all you need is a computer : then you can do as much or as little as you like. I'm sure Elegran and I would be delighted if you joined us on the Forensic Psychology course if that interests you

I've had one day of the Forensic Psychology course and it is very good.

It is pitched just right for me. I have done a nutrition course that was too simplistic (boring and full of people who were amazed to learn the most elementary things about their insides) and a climate change one that had a lot of maths and was full of people exchanging complicated equations .

It sounds good. I will investigate.

Well what fascinating stuff. It's the science stuff that appeals to me.
