Daughter told to wet herself

My daughter Yr 2 aged 6 came out of school absolutely dying for a wee. She said 5 minutes after lunch she asked the teacher but was refused. She waited a bit and asked again but was told she should have gone at lunch and that if she could not wait she would have to wet herself (SO ANGRY) luckily she managed to wait but the afternoon runs for 2 hours and 20 mins.

opinions would be helpful Is the teacher out of order? Should I go and speak to her?

That was meant to say grandaughter.

i can see no reason why she would be refused access to the toilet and certainly believe it's unheard of to be told to wet herself .

I would say that either you or her parents should certainly speak with the teacher to clarify exactly what has gone on. Having worked for many years in schools, I know from experience that situations sometimes get confused!

Your granddaughter should certainly not have been prevented from going to the loo - particularly in this hot weather when the children should be being encouraged to drink plenty of water. Definitely have a chat to put your mind at ease.

There do seem to be a lot of threads about this issue recently.

Very harsh teacher in my view. I can't imagine any of the teachers in the school I work in being that mean. Often a child will be asked if they can wait till playtime or home time but not for over 2 hrs.
I would check with the teacher what the rules are about leaving the classroom to use the toilet.

Indeed Ana.

I don't believe that a teacher told a 6 year old to wet herself.

Too many threads started about the urinary habits of young girls.

Leticia Fri 26-May-17 13:37:25

I would check with the teacher-it sounds highly unlikely to me.

Another in the Victor Meldrew camp here "I don't believe it"

Definitely check with teacher

Only believe half of what children tell you about school, as most teachers only believe half of what they tell us about home!!

jenpax Fri 26-May-17 17:24:44

Fair point Ana?My DGS told his teacher that we never feed him! Appearances suggesting the contrary?

grannypiper Fri 26-May-17 18:07:47

What on earth do teachers expect ? In lots of schools hildren are either allowed a water bottle on their desk or they have a jug i the classroom, if you dont expect children to go 2 hours without a drink then you have to understand the children will need to use the loo more often.

If the parents and grandparents of the children I taught heard what they told me, they would be mortified.
Gems ranging from.... "My grandma is a witch" to "My Nanna shaves her bottom!"
The aforementioned witch had gone to fancy dress party, by the way and was in no way involved in any satanic activities.
Not sure about the bottom shaving though.....?

shysal Fri 26-May-17 18:36:40

Perhaps it was her front bottom!

Check the facts rather than go in guns blazing. Then discuss accordingly!

My son told me most emphatically in P.1 that if you were badly behaved you were sent to the head teacher, and she punched you in the face.

Further investigation revealed that his teacher had said they would be sent to the head teacher for " punchment", so yer man had simply elaborated.

fiorentina51 Fri 26-May-17 19:46:22

Shysal. I didn't dare ask!

Yes, a fair few threads on this topic recently, not sure if they are all from new members?

If children do wet themselves, I suppose it is easier to deal with if they are wearing plimsoles(sp)

Floriatosca Sat 27-May-17 02:39:30

Thank you Daddima! Still awake at 02.37 (!) I read your post and now just can't stop laughing out loud!!

fiorentina51 Sat 27-May-17 07:53:24

Just a thought, darlinggd. Why would you take it upon yourself to speak to your grandchild's teacher? That's her mother or father's job surely?

NanaandGrampy Sat 27-May-17 08:24:57

Now that made me laugh Phoenix !!

This makes my blood boil.
My daughter now aged 22 was in Yr 2 and the exact same thing happened.
She was not so fortunate and did gave an accident.
I am not one for over reacting but boy dud I write a strongly worded letter saying their memory's were out-dated and humiliating.
They wrote and apologised and I insisted the apology went to my girl. She remembers it to this day.
It is not healthy for a child to hold their bladder that long.

My sister was a primary school teacher as was my Mum, they used to get exasperated with "Please Miss " but never stopped a child from going to the toilet , I really don't believe the OP

phoenix Sat 27-May-17 19:32:53

Strong feeling of hmm

Ana Sat 27-May-17 19:36:36

Waste of time, phoenix - it'll just run and run until it finally runs out of steam.

And then someone will revive it next year! grin
