My brother in law has claimed...

.... that during the 1990's when he was teaching, staff who had graduated from Scottish Universities were not entitled to the same pay progression as English graduates. I think he is talking through his knickers - but does anyone remember anything like this?
You know what it's like when something someone has said really riles you ....... grin

If anyone in an English LEA had suggested such nonsense there would have been a huge protest.
Bear in mind that Scottish students study for 4 years for an honours MA or BSc. PGDE or equivalent takes a further year.
Seriously suggesting that a 3year degree from a minor 'new' English uni is worth more than a St Andrews degree?
Mawbroon may be able to confirm/deny your BiL's claim as she was in that very position.

Not true. Although I have mainly taught in FE, I did a stint in a comprehensive and nobody suggested that my Scottish Honours degree was worth less than an English degree.
