I've just got to tell someone!

We have just got back from the Schools England Hockey Cup competition where my son's team did very well finishing third; they were the first team in the school's history to get to the finals so we were already on a high. My DS has a medical condition which puts him at a disadvantage to the others but he has always been conscientious and keen to play no matter how much pain he has been in but no matter how hard he tries, he will never get higher than County Level because his body is just not designed for stamina or speed. Nevertheless, we are inordinately proud of his determination and were delighted to be told that he is to be the Captain of the 1st X1. I want to shout it to the world as this is such an honour and a recognition of his hard work but I have been told to keep it under my hat until the official announcement which is some way off. I think I'm going to burst so I hope I haven't outed myself so much on here that I have let the cat out of the bag!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful news with us. Well done to your son for his hard work and overcoming his problems - hope he has a very successful time as Captain. County hockey is no mean feat. And well done to you and your family for your support - you can be justifiably proud.

Well done on his fantastic achievement! Your post reminded me of when my daughter asked me to keep quiet about her pregnancy - I was over the moon! The week after my OH and I were in Madeira where no one knew us - but by the end of the week everyone there knew she was pregnant!

I am absolutely blown away by all your messages of support. I know if I tell anyone around here they won't be able to resist telling someone else and before you know it, everybody will know.
He is the youngest of 6 (the others are all giving me grandchildren), very much later born because we had to save up for IVF, we had a major tragedy with our little girl on the way and he was our last ditch attempt. I always joke that they gave us the wrong test tube because he is conscientious, determined and sporty, things DH and I seemed to be lacking. I think we must have some lurking good genes hiding somewhere!

Nandalot Wed 21-Mar-18 11:42:40

He’s done brilliantly but I think your support should be recognised too.

NemosMum Wed 21-Mar-18 11:48:08

So pleased for you!

Icanhandthemback......Congratulations and well done to your DS. I have some idea (just a little) how you must feel as my youngest DS played hockey for the 1st X1 at his school. Never made Captain. Enjoy it all and very well done again to your DS for all his hard work. I don’t envy you standing on the sidelines but I do remember those lovely teas afterwards making it all worth while, when their side won of course.???

What wonderful news. There is nothing like the feeling of being a proud parent or grandparent but it is not always easy to shout it out loud. I wish there was a clapping emoticon.

Congratulations, this is such lovely news to brighten up the day. No wonder you're bursting with pride, I would find it difficult to keep something like this quiet.smile

Rosina Wed 21-Mar-18 16:50:43

That's wonderful; special people are the ones who can achieve against all the odds. There should be a Stephen Hawking award for those who battle on and get there in spite of every difficulty. Good for him!
