It isn't the first time this has happened and it will not be the last.

Far more damaging was the article by Andrew Wakefield published in The Lancet and subsequently repudiated that started the whol anti-vax movement and several other eminent scientists have been found to have fabricated someof their results.

I am not defending it and academics are always on the look out for it, but no profession is free from charlatans, like that surgeon who is currently serving a long sentence for damaging and unnecessary breats operations on 100s of women, then there are crooked lawyers, abusing teachers. Name the profession and you will find the crooked/criminal/ incompetent, no profession is perfect.

GeorgeBurkitt and MarkLee127 What I think is that people who include links to the very thing that they are complaining about are sailing very close to the wind. Advertising in the forums is banned.

Postmodern populism isn't at all isolated to a few eccentric academics either, its dictating policy in our schools & girl guides & unofficially censoring popular media through fear and aggressive "activism"

It would be funny if it wasn't the tip of the iceberg & representative of the brainwashing young people are currently undergoing en masse at universities throughout the country and particularly within the NUS.

The NUS will go down in history and our great grandkids will ask why nobody cared to stop them.

Postmodern populism is taking away young people's ability to be individual critical thinkers.

It used to be that the academic world would broaden your mind, now it narrows it.

This is actually rather funny as well as terrifying. Three academics submitted hoax papers to peer reviewed journals and seven were published. In the article I've linked to, five other academics have responded to the scandal. They argue that reason has been replaced with ideology in some academic fields and that who said something has become more important than what is being said (this who/what reversal phenomenon has surfaced on Gransnet a few times and I've challenged it when I've seen it).

Anyway, ? well done the three hoaxers. Let's hope it starts a movement back to academic sanity in the ideology affected areas.
