Someone kindly recommended Future Learn and a course coming up on avoiding falls. I signed up as did a number of us on GN and today have been told it will start on 18 March, so I am about to enrol on the Free course.

Anyone else interested ?

Yes, I am interested.

Thanks NanKate. I have registered.

Stable doors, horses, bolting
I have just come back from a walk with Hattie where I slipped in a very muddy gateway and went skidding onto my (bad) arm and shoulder and landing in a rather prickly bush.
Fortunately nobody saw me and I kept hold of her lead.
Somewhat discombobulated though. Not sure if the shoulder is worse now or if perhaps it has fixed it!

Excellent Liz always good to have a Learning Buddy.

Poor you Maw a hot cuppa and a sit by the fire with some pain relief is recommended.

Maw would Hattie not stay with you? Was she not concerned what had happened to her mum?

I am also interested.

She was curious Charleygirl but also quite “spooked” by my sudden change of position.
They are highly strung (when awake)

I've done a couple of Future Learn courses in the past and can highly recommend them. The fact that they're free is amazing. You can purchase a certificate at completion, so I did, as a kind of payment. that's optional, though.

Unlike faithful dogs in stories, mine took the opportunity to run off into the fields when I fell over. tchsmile
Hope you have recovered now Maw and your shoulder is ok.

Maybe we need to read “Greyfriars Bobby” to our mutts?

Anja Fri 21-Dec-18 18:00:04

Slightly off piste (but hope you’re not too achy Maw) I can’t do floor exercises ‘cos my mutt comes and pokes his face into mine asking ‘what you up to muver?’ ....wish he’d run off.

MawBroon Fri 21-Dec-18 18:52:04

One of my previous greyhounds used to stand over me when I was doing any sort of floor exercises and often as not, f*rt in my face.
Love ‘em!

Luckygirl Fri 21-Dec-18 19:03:18

Oh blimey Maw - the fall, not the fart! Are you OK?

MawBroon Fri 21-Dec-18 19:58:28

No damage thank you Luckygirl but it hasn’t fixed my shoulder either sad
Using industrial quantities of “Deep Freeze” patches. Trying to keep the Naproxen to an absolute minimum as the side effects can be even worse
WD 40 anyone?

sodapop Fri 21-Dec-18 22:13:23

Oh dear Maw don't think I could get through Greyfriars Bobby without crying.
I keep telling my three about heroic and faithful dogs but they are much more interested in the box of dog biscuits.tchgrin

I hope you haven't done too much damage, Maw. Not that it will be much comfort, but I've found recently that at least falling on grass or mud or bushes gives a sort of cushion. You don't bounce on town pavements.
I had an email about this course a couple of days ago. and hope to join.

Anyone else tried a FL course ? I am wondering how much work will be involved. I'm soon to find out on the 18 March.

I'm looking for something like this, as I am just recovering from a total hip replacement resulting from a fall - I can't see it on the FutureLearn website, can anyone give a link? - thanks!

Try this - www.futurelearn.com/courses/falls

They repeat the courses such as the falling one every so often. You can put the name of the course in the Search area and you can then say you want to be alerted when it is repeated. I found it was very worthwhile.
