Any neighbours, relatives, local elderly persons home who would like some plums, Bichon? My Victoria plum tree has done well this year. It's only young, but I got some great big plums from it. A great year for fruit.

Leave a box outside your gate with a "help yourself" sign?

Local harvest festivals?

Wonder if the ladies at a church near you would like some to make jam etc for
Autumn Fairs?

I'm a bit behind you here. Just starting to process the plum mountain today. DH (having been invited to pick the 'too high for me even on a pop up' fruit) has, sighing, deserted the F1 prelims and 'helpfully' picked a basket and two bowlsfull of not quite ripe apples. What the am I to do with them?

Many Plums have already been distributed to family and friends and I will take a large quantity to Ancient Uncle's care home, fingers crossed that none of them swallow the stones again.

I had too many the first year.....this time, none.
And about 3 pears.

Plum ketchup. Uses loads and tastes delicious.

Try your local WI. They would probably bite your hand off for them. How far away from me do you live?

I make a spiced plum cordial with my damsons.

Sounds interesting!

This is Delia's ketchup recipe.

Not sure I have ever done all the sterilising stuff and some of mine is what might politely be called vintage.
Probably a good idea to do it her way though.

Too many plums is what I feel I have eaten today! One fresh fig and a small banana. One dried fig, several Victoria plums and half a large nectarine. Maybe that was not such a good idea! hmm

Galen
6lb plums/damsons
4 pints water

For every pint of juice
12 oz granulated sugar
5 oz orange juice

For every 5 pints of juice
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 dessertspoon cloves
1 teaspoon nutmeg

Heat plums/damsons an a pan and bring to the boil. Simmer for 5 minutes. Place plums into a muslin bag (or in my case I use an old pillow case) and hang up over a bowl to strain out all the juice.

Measure the juice, put in a big pan. Add sugar, orange juice and spices

Bring to the boil then bottle into sterilised bottles, filled to overflowing before capping. Store in a cool dry place. It seems to keep indefinitely. This amount makes about 3 - 4 litres, but the recipe can be scaled down.

My son and his family came for a meal last week and brought me a big marrow. There was a box outside a house with a sign saying free to a good home. So they brought me one as they did not know what to do with it.
So I agree with J08, a box with a sign saying take some.

my friend has just given me a large carrier bag full of plums what is the best way to freeze them?

Bez Thu 19-Sep-13 09:18:34

I always wash, stone and cook plums with a minimum of sugar and then freeze them in boxes and afterwards transfer to a plastic bag - lovely for crumbles in the winter.

simtib Thu 19-Sep-13 09:19:58

could also try freecycle.

If you are putting them outside with a notice I always put a roll of little plastic bags as people don't always have something to take them away in. One year our Monarch apple tree yielded 500lbs of fruit!
