Felicity Cloake - refreshing or pretentious?

I have just been looking at some recipes in a magazine by a person called Felicity Cloake. I must confess that I have never heard of her so assume she must be a new cook on the block. What she appears to be doing is a rehash of other people's recipes then calling them 'The Perfect' whatever.
Why her version should be any more perfect than someone else's is a moot point.

The descriptions she writes have made me grind my teeth and shout 'what a load of pretentious rubbish'. She makes Nigella sound like a plain speaker. Cream is not cream, but 'ivory cream' - as opposed to blue or green perhaps? For summer pudding you need 'thin homogenous slices rather than something full of artisanal holes' (of bread). Well, obviously!

Bring back Delia is all I ask.

Nonu wink it sounds as if it was in the Guardian or Telegraph?

It put me off claiming to be 'Perfect'. What self-assurance!

Re-read my 2nd post 'it put me off claiming to be perfect'

What I meant to say was that it put me off her recipes and her as well because of the fact that she claims that they are perfect recipes.

Not that it puts me off claiming to be perfect. Which I know I am anyway. And my recipes are always perfect and perfectly cooked.
Got to go, was that the smoke alarm?

Just popping to tesco in my lace dress and stilettos to buy some readymade food for a picnic.

She just makes me want to grin grin

What's perfect for her eyes and taste buds wouldn't necessarily be perfect for anyone else.

Good heavens!
I've never thought of her like that at all! I love her Guardian column and use it a lot (in that photo she wears an apron)

"The perfect......." was a light-hearted way of saying "let's try different recipes for the same things and see what work best". She's always clear about what is her taste and gives really helpful guidance.

Horses for courses.

Her prose just comes across as a pretentious load of crap rather contrived.

I have only just heard of her today and thought she was someone new and trying too hard.

I have used recipes by Tamasin Day-Lewis and her food descriptions are not plain and simple either but come across as natural, delightful and eloquent.
