Strange sandwiches

I've just seen my German friend eat sliced apple on brown bread. When I said I'd never seen that before, she asked how it was different from banana on a sandwich.

My aunt used to give us Cadbury's flake and banana in a sandwich, and I've heard of ( but never tried) Scotch pie in a roll, and condensed milk in a sandwich. I have a friend who maintains there is no food which cannot be put in a sandwich, Pot Noodle being a favourite.

What are your strange sandwich fillings?

Mentioned this before , my mum liked Fry's Turkish Delight bars in her sandwich's and cheese and banana.

Mashed potato, double yuck! I think I would add Fry's Turkish Delight bars to that.

Peanut butter and cranberry sauce. Yum, yum!

Reading some of the sarnie fillings mentioned makes me realise I have a rather conservative approach to sandwiches. Nothing can beat cheese and tomato.

I've always liked apple sandwiches with a sprinkle of sugar, Daddima - I didn't realise they were unusual! A favourite treat when I was little was a bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk between two slices of buttered white bread. We used to get sugar sandwiches too.

DGS2, aged 3, asked for a scrambled egg sandwich for lunch this week. He ate it all and said it was delicious. I can't see it catching on though - it was ever so slightly messy!

Fry cream chocolate (sliced through the centre - No mean feat!) On brown bread

Cheese & pear sandwiches

Sugar is my limit, I like 'boring' fillings, ham and cheese, cheese and tomato, beef and mustard and now I'm hungry!

My Mum used to serve orange and date brown bread sandwiches , she thought it was very sophisticated ! They were dreadful !

Cornflake sandwiches are nice.

When I was a child I was a poor eater and my dad showed me how to make a dinner sandwich.

You need a roast dinner and two slices of bread, fill the bread with vegetables, roast potatoes etc., I loved them and began to eat well.

Mum's favourite sandwich was cheese and apricot jam.

My lunch today was a strong cheese with strawberry jam in a crusty roll, and a mug of builders tea.

Ever try a sultana sandwich?

My Danish DH also eats sliced apple on ryebread

In Denmark you can also buy "sandwich chocolate" - thin slices of milk or dark chocolate that are the right size to fit on a bit of ryebread

DD used to like paté and honey sanwiches

tanith Fri 10-Feb-17 21:49:25

Not that unusual but I dare not have peanut butter in the cupboard as I cannot resist making peanut butter and strawberry jam sandwichs I would eat them all day yet I don't actually like peanut butter much.

When I was at school we used to scoop out some of the dough from a bap, fill it with crisps and crunch away. Fab.

Here and in The Netherlands Chocolate sprinkles are common on bread for breakfast, in fact they are sold in the section of the supermarket with jams and Choc spread. DGS is into Cocktail sauce sandwiches at the moment.

Dad used to eat peanut butter and lettuce.

Plain crisps on buttered brown bread is the limit of an unusual sandwich for me grin
