Trying out a couple recipes from Nigellas new book....chicken fricassee, roasted maple plums and the white chocolate cheesecake....will take the cheesecake to my daughter's as I'm picking up my granddaughters for the weekend.

I'm starting with jellied beetroot, as long as DH remembers the vinegar. It's the last of the beetroot from the garden.

Just made diced lamb with baby potatoes, cooked in the pressure cooker along with baby aubergines.
Lots of thick, juicy stock with it.
Serving it for tomorrow's lunch when DS and DIL and the children are coming for lunch.
Oh and pavlova for dessert.
Have a nice weekend everyone.

Our local shop does carry out Roast Chicken dinners on a Sunday blush

A chicken curry on the go here for tommorrow evening (needs a day for the flavours to develop). The plumber who is working upstairs is complaining that he is distracted by the lovely smells and is now starving!

I have taken a rack of lamb out of the freezer, it was bought for a special occasion which never happened, well the occasion did, we just never celebrated.
It is for tomorrow night and my mouth is watering already.

I'm doing roast beef tomorrow evening with my daughter and SIL as guests, to say thank you to him for beautifully restoring an oak milkmaid stool for me. (Can't do Sunday as husband is playing golf).

They have a mainly vegetarian diet but according to my daughter they are carne-curious grin - they eat meat at my house.

At the moment I fancy eating out but I did have planned a Nigel Slater "Duck and apple" for Sunday. Tomorrow is planned spaghetti puttacini (sp) that is a Good Housekeeping recipe, but feel very lazy at the moment.

DD3 is arriving in about an hour. We will have rib-eye steaks, GF battered onion rings, garlic mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and real chips.

Tomorrow is Teriyaki chicken with egg fried rice, on our knees watching Strictly.

Sunday is a celebration of littlest DGD's 4th birthday and she has asked for Frankie and Benny's.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks a curry (and a stew in our house) takes a day to merge all the flavours.
Never understood how folks can do a Bolognese or similar in 20 minutes , mine takes all day!
Sunday I am making a family sized toad in the hole with thick onion gravy. Family coming round after yet another horse show and they usually arrive starving hungry after being in the fresh air all day. Not doing roasts as we have had one for the last 2 Sunday's where again I did for everyone after horse shows.
Saturday is undecided as yet.
I wish someone would cook for me sometimes though.

Hildajenni .....jellied beetroot sounds interesting. Do you eat that as a condiment with anything?

All sounds great....happy cooking....& eating

Jellied beetroot brings back memories of the 70s - we used to have it grated (cooked) in redcurrant jelly - is that what you mean? Come to think of it, it would make a great accompaniment to meat.

I made another 70s dish last weekend - creamed mushrooms. Chopped, gently fried in a knob of butter, tablespoon of flour stirred in, splash of wine to loosen it up, cook on and then stir in enough milk or thin cream to get to where you want to be. Lots of pepper. Husband licked his lips! It was only served on toast smile

My rack of lamb which is now defrosted has some freeer burn ?
My fault for not using it sooner, £10 from M&S,more tears.?

OH has been away for the week and gets back around midnight tonight. I've stocked the fridge with favourite snacks in case of midnight munchies and I'll make a Chicken Balti today ready for tomorrow. I'm another one who believes that curries need at least 24 hours to develop good flavour :-)

loopyloo Sat 23-Sep-17 08:49:23

Oh it all sounds delicious. May I come for Sunday dinner?

Smithy Sat 23-Sep-17 09:18:13

Makes me feel very lazy reading about all you busy cooks! Does anyone have a spare plate of veggie food that would do me for today?. Can pick up within reasonable radius!

I've just seen one of those pop-up recipes on facebook where you line a slow cooker with two sheets of foil, spray it with oil, layer chunks of potato, cheddar cheese, onion, garlic, cooked bacon and paprika, wrap the foil over the top and cook on high for five hours. You then drizzle soured cream over the top before serving.

I thought I'd give it a try today as I have some smoked bacon in the fridge that needs using.

Some yummy meals there ladies.
I am about to make a chicken curry for tonights meal (having a cup of coffee first, while chicken and coconut cream is defrosting) as yes it does need a few hours to be at it's best. Agree with Nannabilly that it's the same with spag bol, I make that in the morning or day before I want to use it and simmer well to get the flavour.

I opened my first jar of jellied beetroot last night, made it about a month ago. Very nice, haven't made it for the last couple of years so it made a nice change to the usual pickle.

lexigran Sat 23-Sep-17 09:37:02

That sounds yummy merlot might have to try that one smile

Cubagran Sat 23-Sep-17 09:40:50

Turkey curry last night (Friday - we have been married 45 years and have ALWAYS had curry on a Friday night!), trying a new Jamie Oliver recipe tonight - the pork fillet and mashed potato one from his tv programme this week, and roast chicken legs tomorrow with all the trimmings.

Cubagran Sat 23-Sep-17 09:42:07

I tried that recipe Merlot, and my slow cooker burnt it!

merlotgran Sat 23-Sep-17 09:48:37

Oh no!! grin

Sheilasue Sat 23-Sep-17 09:49:43

King prawn risotto for me aka Sainsbury's. H has chicken and veg cooked by me, none of the fancy stuff for him.
Out to lunch with our daughter tomorrow. No cooking for me. Yay

sluttygran Sat 23-Sep-17 09:50:52

My mouth is watering - all those meals sound lovely! I'm cooking dinner for family tomorrow, but they're all vegans, so meals are not quite so exciting nowadays.
I do admire their principles and am trying to reduce my consumption of animal foods, but how I long for roast lamb with lots of gravy and mint sauce!

meandashy Sat 23-Sep-17 09:51:58

Here's one I made this week ? did loves toad in the hole ?
