I’m thinking of buying an airfryer. If you have one have you found it useful? Does it make chips as delicious as deep fried ones?

I have one. It does chips, roasties, chops and lots of other things without all the fat. Pinterest has loads of ways you can utuilise your air fryer. Maybe take a look before you buy? www.pinterest.co.uk/

I have one.
It does make nice chips but not nearly as nice as deep fried ones!

They take forever to make chips and they are nothing like deep fried ones, over priced dust gatherer.

I have a ninja foodi. It's a combination pressure cooker, air dryer. I've only done chips in it once when DGD was visiting. She said they were excellent. Much better than those from the chip shop.

I've not tried chips but my recently acquired airfryer is excellent for roasting chicken and baking (sponges, fairy cakes and shortbread). That's all I've tried so far. I don't like the fact that you can't wrap food in foil for slower cooking of joints of pork, lamb etc. as in ordinary halogen ovens. I'd love to hear how others are getting on with theirs.

Thank you that’s very helpful. I didn’t know you could bake in them. To be honest I was hoping for a good way to make chips as my DH loves them but sounds like it’s not the answer.

I had one, it took just as long as the regular oven to cook meat. I did make a nice banana cake in it, chips were a failure. I got rid of it after a few months as it took up a lot of room on my bench and there was no real benefit.

Apparently there are 2 types you can get - the drawer style which seems to be smaller but quicker and the space ship type which is what mine was.

eebeew, we like chips but not frozen ones. We use an Actifry and it can make very good chips from Maris Piper or King Edward potatoes. We use rape seed oil and assume they are reasonably healthy chips.

My husband's grand daughters stayed with us for a few days and when their mother came to collect them, they ran up to her shouting 'Nanny Liz made chips OUT OF POTATOES'!

I hadn't realised they were watching me and didn't know that chips don't have to come out of the freezer.

DH (who does the cooking) bought a Tower one a couple of weeks ago from Sainsbury’s on impulse.

So far he’s only cooked chips using Maris Piper (Par boiled and browned with paprika they were delicious although different from proper deep fried chips). And frozen fish and chunky chips (cooked at the same time as they needed the same time) which tasted the same as they usually do.

Will take a look at the Pinterest link.

We bought one before Christmas but haven’t got round to using it yet.

DD1 used hers to cook some of the party food on Christmas Day. I didn’t realise she had used it and commented how crispy it was. Party picky bits!

Mine is the drawer style from Aldi (£40) and I’ve made chips and roasties (par boiled potatoes) and they were crisp and delicious.

It is a big machine for a small kitchen but it gave me an excuse to have a clear out of some plastic tubs and serving dishes that hadn’t been used in five years!

We have also got the ALDI one, and I used it tonight to make jacket potatoes, lovely and crisp.
But, I would like to know how to cook fairy cakes! in it.

Before Christmas, I made a small fruit cake in it. Not a success, as the top was burned well done! and the middle was undercooked.

We bought one, but were so disappointed by the chips etc that we cooked in it that we stopped using it,

We have a Tefal Actifry, we use it for both frozen and "real" chips. Whilst not as tasty as deep-fried, it's much healthier and so we can enjoy them more often! I've also done veggie stir-fries and chicken drumsticks (good) but haven't tried baking in it.
