If you're interested in more whys and wherefore, this was flagged up on the BBC website this morning.

Olive oil is apparently the way to go.

It's a wonderful moisturiser, I use it often. I occasionally cook with it but it is high in saturated fat as others have said. I just checked and coconut oil is 90% saturated fat, butter is around 65%, probably not great as we age.

I've a tub of it and after I've warmed up my bathroom, I'm going to attack my body with scrubbing mitts, dry off and then, as vegansrock has written, use it as a body moisturiser.
My skin's got so dry since my 'shielding' started mid-March. That'll sort it!

You shouldn’t use too much of it but if you fry cumin seeds in before making a Sri Lankan cashew nut curry it gives a great flavour. Failing that you can use it as a moisturiser.

When I lived in the Caribbean the government ran adverts advising against the use of coconut oil for cooking because it is high in saturated fats.
The smell makes me nauseous.

Scrambled eggs in coconut oil are delicious!

I loved the taste of coconut oil but unfortunately it was most likely a major culprit in raising my already high cholesterol levels! It's very high in saturated fat.

DiL fried some potatoes in coconut oil once when we were staying there. They were delicious.
I've never used it as I think it's quite expensive, but the flavour is very good. Not too strong.
