Can I shallow fry scampi?

Treated ourselves to a bag of frozen scampi from our local fishmonger. I have just realised that it says ‘deep fry only’ on the bag. We threw out our deep fryer years ago. Can I shallow fry it safely, and if so, how much oil and for how long?

I have only once shallow fried scampi with not very good results the scampi broke up in the frying pan (maybe not deep enough with the oil) I ended up giving the remains to the cat.

I’ve dipped them in oil and cooked them in a hot oven in the past - delicious ?

It's possible to deep fry in any saucepan, but do not have the oil more than a third of the way up the pan as it "expands" when the food is placed in it.

I use an old, smallish flat bottomed Wok as a deep fryer.
I always have an old oil bottle around to put the used oil in to be disposed of safely.
I find the Wok is safer than a saucepan or frying pan, and also has a reasonable depth and circumference.

I cook scampi in a very hot oven on a non-stick baking sheet or a pizza stone if you have one, not had a problem so far.
