Chatting with my gd today about ports closed, with some commodities not getting through, fresh stuff etc., she is thrilled at hopefully just eating turkey and roast potatoes with no flippin vegetables and especially sprouts, that’s great nan?

What a shame most sprouts are British. And if you don't eat your greens, no pudding.

Puzzler61 Mon 21-Dec-20 20:44:25

I bought some sprouts today and a small bag cost £2.20.
We like them so that is a big ‘negative’ for me.
The positive is we have some for our Christmas lunch - it wouldn’t be the same without sprouts.
Your GD obviously would disagree ?

LoobbyLoo Mon 21-Dec-20 20:55:58

Puzzler61 where in the world are you £2.20 for a small bag of sprouts...

M&S in Worcestershire. I think I must have grabbed a gold quality bag!!
Last year I think I paid about 55 pence ?

Kim19 Mon 21-Dec-20 21:09:03

Good girl! Savvy.

grandMattie Mon 21-Dec-20 21:12:17

We got a whole stick plus top for about £1.50 here. Two for £2!

Puzzler61 Mon 21-Dec-20 21:38:43

I won’t waste even 1 - I’ll turn any leftovers into bubble and squeak. I think I was duped ?

Bag of sprouts in Aldi today - 14 pence!

Puzzler61 Mon 21-Dec-20 22:15:10

I think an extra 20 pence was added as it was an M&S Simply Food at a petrol station for the convenience of it being open long hours.
I’m feeling pretty gullible ?

Lizbethann55 Mon 21-Dec-20 22:17:51

Lucky legs beat me to it. Aldi 14p. Other Christmas veg is also 14p. Having Christmas dinner with my DD , SiL and two DGC, but we have to take our own sprouts as they all hate them!!

Urmstongran Mon 21-Dec-20 22:30:28

I ❤️ sprouts. Had them twice last week just cos.

They could be the chocolate sprouts at that price!

(And very nice they are too)

BlueBelle Mon 21-Dec-20 23:31:41

That’s some price for sprouts I think you were ‘done’ puzzler

Blossoming Mon 21-Dec-20 23:34:43

We get sprouts from one of our local farm shops. I love them if they’re not overcooked.

Puzzler61 Tue 22-Dec-20 10:40:19

I’m thinking so too BlueBelle.
You’ve seen the M&S advert?
“Not just sprouts (enticing music ?) - M&S sprouts”

They’d better be tasty ?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 22-Dec-20 11:44:15

I love sprouts, anytime of the year.

(There are farmers in Lincolnshire pointing out that they have fields of broccoli and cauliflower waiting to be harvested. They are hopeful for orders from supermarkets and shops who cannot get produce from Spain)

Last year Iceland did marmite sprouts. Did anyone try them?

Chewbacca Tue 22-Dec-20 22:22:04

Sprouts are the work of the devil; cannot abide the look, smell or, heaven forbid, the taste of them. But DIL loves them so a friend gave me 4 of hers today for free! Not worked out yet how to cook the things and keep them at arms length. Bleurgh.

merlotgran Tue 22-Dec-20 23:11:18

Shredded sprouts and marmite sandwiches is a southern delicacy. tchgrin

merlotgran Tue 22-Dec-20 23:13:34

I adore sprouts. Can't have them this year because DH is on a 'no farty foods' diet while he has radiotherapy.

All the greens and pulses which I love will have to wait.

I’m with you on this, food of the devil indeed! My children had to wait until they were adults living alone to taste sprouts as I would not cook them!
