Tonight’s dinner took me back 40 years. I can remember my dad making this, spam, chips, egg and beans.

I live in a house with 2 track athletes so don’t get much of a chance to eat like this. Feeling low after my vacation so thought, why not. Every thing was eaten so they must have enjoyed it.

Sorry,, but I bought Spam once to try it and thought it was horrible. Kids wouldn't eat it. I think it's one of those foods that you have to have nostalgic taste.

We used to have corned beef in a tin once in a while as children...I'm not sure I would want to try it again, although I see it is still sold in stores.

Mum used to give us Spam fritters, when we were living at home.
Then when money was tight, they became an almost weekly tea for our family.
I haven't had it for ages, but see that the Izzie and Ellie sisters, on Gogglebox, often talk about Spam.

I hate Spam but do like corned beef. If in the tin though, it has to have the outside fat scraped off. Yuck.

I bought a tin of Spam a few weeks ago. I have fond memories of it from my childhood. However, I had my own teeth then. After eating the Spam my dentures were left with a film of grease over them. Quite unpleasant.

Spam fritters, chips and peas the cafe used to call out as I spent my 3 shilling luncheon voucher.

My school lunches sometimes had spam fritters, very greasy, yuk!

We bought lunch from our local sandwich hut last week and Spam was new on the menu. I tried it on a whim and it was ruddy lovely. smile I’ll be requesting double spam next time.

I buy spam in slices, in a packet labelled luncheon meat. I like it

midgey Wed 24-Mar-21 09:26:01

I bought some Spam fairly recently and found it to be very salty. I like salt but too much for me!

Lovetopaint037 Sat 27-Mar-21 16:42:28

It does have to be”real” spam. The one in the tin marked Spam.

Sorry but I would be going out for a fish and chip supper. I hate spam, beans and fried eggs. Yuck to corn beef also.

I used to love Spam sandwiches and fried spam. Yum. I might get some. It's the fried egg I couldn't eat. Yuk.

In a fit of nostalgia, I tried some Spam a while ago. I couldn't believe how greasy it was.

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 03-Apr-21 11:22:10

Haven't had spam anything since I was a child!

timetogo2016 Sat 03-Apr-21 14:05:30

I haven`t had spam since the 70s when my mom would fry it and we would have it with egg and chips.
And occasionly we would have lunchion meat.
I wouldn`t touch either these days.

Amberone Sat 03-Apr-21 14:27:50

Have never had Spam and don't fancy it now but we do eat Corned Beef from a tin (Princes?) - the one with lower salt. Every now and again I make a corned beef and Potato and Leek pie or pasties.

Sorry, it is good of the devil. Just the smell of it has me running for the hills.

ginny Sat 03-Apr-21 15:40:21

Aveline Sat 03-Apr-21 15:51:28

I used to love Spam spread. Tasty in white bread for school packed lunch.

Yes, real Spam... delicious fried crisply, yum.I always have a tin in the larder which we use when returning home after holidays when there is nothing in the fridge, or as an easy meal with eggs now and then, if we have no bacon.

Greeneyedgirl Sat 03-Apr-21 18:28:10

Food of the devil. Ground reconstituted meat, full of preservatives. Ugh!

Kamiso Sat 03-Apr-21 18:36:18

My late youngest brother was a picky eater but he loved Spam. I certainly didn’t. Bad enough having spam fritters at home but the school ones were far worse.

Now, corned beef hash is a completely different matter!
