I had to buy a jar of nigella seeds yesterday for DG1 who is making Naan bread at school. She needed a teaspoonful only. What can I do with the rest?

I use them in curries. They are also good in lentil soup, if you want to make it a bit more interesting. Try sprinkling them on carrots parsnips and potatoes when you roast them.

Thanks MiniMoon . I will try all those ideas.

You can grind them down to give a more subtle flavour rub on meats or fish.

I would have been much happier giving the school 20p for my portion of Nigella seeds.
Not producing more waste should be as important a part of domestic science as the cookery itself.

I needed a spoonful of poppy seeds for a recipe and ended up giving the rest to the birds.

I absolutely agree Sago. She also needed a packet of dried yeast and I had to buy a box of eight. I drew the line at a packet of coriander just for the garnish of her curry and sent her in with my jar of dried stuff.
