I recently received an Airfryer for mothers day and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or tips.
Tried and true recipes would be appreciated.
Has anyone tried a 'casserole' type dish, and how did it go.

There are 2 very recent threads on this subject which I think you will find very helpful.

It depends on which kind of air fryer you have. Is it solely an air fryer or a combination one?

I have a Ninja all in one, casserole dishes in it are delicious. I just my normal recipes.

Hope you enjoy it. I don’t have any tried and tested recipes. I just cook what I used to cook in the oven-but faster and more exciting when putting a joint on the spit. I joined a FB group -full of hints and tips.

Just think of it as a small oven and use it accordingly.

Marydoll thank you for the link, I'll have a look.
I did look under the food section and found one post.

My air fryer or air grill/oven is a Devanti with one large square basket.

With casseroles I'm assuming the food goes into a Pyrex dish or something similar rather than straight into the basket? So single pot dishes are what I'm interested in as I live alone.

The cooking times are a bit hit and miss at this stage, I guess its a bit of trial and error?

Thanks for the responses smile

If you're looking for single pot casserole dishes I'd certainly look at getting a slow cooker, unless you've already got one. I wouldn't be without mine, which I use for batch cooking stews, casseroles, chilli, curries etc., which I then bag and freeze. Typically around 10 individual portions per batch, from a 6.5L cooker. They are available as small as 1.5L and also 3.5L, but I prefer the batch cooking approach, which is more economical, so would recommend the largest one. I also have an air fryer, which I simply use for cooking stuff which otherwise would have been done in the oven. So much more energy efficient.

I bought a couple of silicone liners that sit in the drawer of my Airfryer. I’ve made shepherds pie, pasta bakes and a fish pie in it they turned out really well. I’ve not done a ‘casserole’ though as I usually make a largish casserole that lasts me a few days and a large casserole dish wouldn’t fit in the drawer. But the silicone dishes are a nice size for one meal.

I had two cheap slow cookers, one small and one larger and an air fryer, which took up a lot of room.
I had resisted an All in one , until DD and SIL were living with us and brought theirs.
I was converted, because it took up less space and did everything from making bread, chips and roaming.
I understand it is a considered purchase, but my ovens have hardly been on, thus cutting energy bills.

To paraphrase what we used to write inside our books as children

“If this Fryer should chance to roam
Box its ears and send it home”

Well!, I am an Air Fryer novice, but just love cheese and tomatoes on toast done in it. I have done Lamb and Chicken, potatoes, veg, mushrooms and chips, all quite successfully, just need to ‘crisp up’ the chips. I am a Domestic Goddess as I was the Queen of Pierce and Ping previously!

AreWeThereYet Sun 21-May-23 17:15:55

I use my Air Fryer everyday and love it but have yet to manage a decent toasted sandwich. I've tried countless recipes I've found on social media in various places and some have been passable, but most have either been dried up or uncooked or soggy or just bleugh. Any hints?

Floradora9 Sun 21-May-23 21:28:52

I buy part baked bagettes from Tesco two for about 70p and cook one for 7 minutes at 180 degrees and it is lovely for lunch . The one does both of us as they are quite long . It means fresh tasting rolls every day . Salmon is another great thing to cook in the airfryer.

Charleygirl5 Sun 21-May-23 22:55:07

I am not a fan of ordinary chips but French fries, Waitrose ones, are really good and being really much cheaper than most places, at 200 degrees for around 10 minutes. A lot depends if they are sharing the fryer with anything else and may need a minute or so longer.

Dorrain Mon 22-May-23 00:21:00

Floradora, I'm keen to try salmon in the air cooker, yum.
I didn't even think about toasted sandwiches, which I love, so I might do a bit of experimenting, AreWeThereYet.
KateKrunch cheese and tomato on toast is the best.
Today I'm shopping for silicone liners, tanith.
The new addition to my kitchen has actually revived my flagging interest in cooking.
Thank you all.
