The Vesta thread reminded me of enjoying their Beef Risotto on white bread and butter. My friend always says there is no food which cannot go ‘ on a piece’ ( Scottish for in a sandwich!) Fry’s chocolate cream is a favourite of his, as is a Scotch pie in a roll!

I always remember my aunt adding a Cadbury’s Flake to a banana sandwich, and my granny used to give us ‘ a piece and sugar’.

I remember sugar sandwiches as a little girl. Nowadays, I enjoy Kettle Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar crisps in a sandwich. No other filling. Just the crisps. Yum.

Loved bread and lard with sugar on. Yum.

DH still likes a crisp sarnie.

Marmite and sweet silverskin pickled onions for me.

Oh, just remembered the cottage cheese and satsuma sandwiches I used to devour during my first pregnancy!

Crispy bacon & banana on toasted sourdough in a Somerset pub - delicious!

I used to go to play with a primary school friend every Wednesday.
My happiness was complete at teatime when we would have chip sandwiches in sliced Mother’s Pride. Heaven,
Alas my poor dear Mum would have deemed that “common” but I was never happier grin

Oh yummy - chip butties! I also had sugar and crisp sandwiches (not together!)

MiniMoon Mon 18-Feb-19 12:37:13

When I was a child I loved cheddar cheese and jam (any flavour) in a sandwich.

Gonegirl Mon 18-Feb-19 13:10:54

MiniMoon DH still does. grin

Daddima your friend was spot on!
Always have my Frys chocolate cream on bread and butter.
Method
2 slices Brown bread buttered.
Frys cream from fridge this is important.
Snap chocolate in half.
With a sharp knife and steady hand,
stand one half on end and slice down through the cream
So that you are left with a two pieces of chocolate with cream on both.

Repeat with t'other half.

The four sliced pieces of chocolate cream should when placed fit between the two slices of bread perfectly.

Cut into quarters as this seems (imho) to make sandwich last longer. ?

Daddima what is your friends secret to a perfect Fry cream sandwich?smile

Apple and cinnamon on good granary bread is as weird as I get sandwich wise.

lemongrove Mon 18-Feb-19 13:54:47

Ah! Chip butties, I remember them well ( and sugar on bread and butter.)
Peanut butter and sliced banana is rather delicious.

grandtanteJE65 Mon 18-Feb-19 13:57:39

Bacon fried crisp and places between two half slices of the cheapest "pan loaf" sold in the Glasgow area.

My mum would have been horrified to see me eating anything "that common", so I just didn't tell her what tea at my school friend's house consisted of.

Chip butties, still happen sometimes.
Sugar butties were yum, crunching on the sugar between soft bread.
Another one we had once in a while was jam and clotted cream, lovely if the cream was cold.

I had forgotten about crisp butties.
I now have a yearning for one but have had my lunch so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

ninathenana Mon 18-Feb-19 15:24:36

One of dad's favourites was crunchy peanut butter and cos lettuce.
I used to eat sugar sarnies. Now I like cheese and plain crisp ones but haven't had one for.............

I want a sugar sarnie and I want it NOW.

Just one wouldn't hurt would it?

JessK Mon 18-Feb-19 15:51:47

Mashed banana and crispy bacon - it's delicious.

Fennel Mon 18-Feb-19 16:53:33

chip butties - when I had my first baby in Hope Hospital Salford the girl in the next bed wouldn't eat the hospital food. Her husband used to bring her fresh chip butties every day.
My favourites are cheese tomato and Marmite.

RosieLeah Mon 18-Feb-19 16:56:48

Toast and dripping...especially when you're down to the juicy bits at the bottom.
Cheese and strawberry jam.
Lettuce and sugar.

KatyK Mon 18-Feb-19 18:31:13

When we were growing up, we would have sugar sandwiches and also cornflake sandwiches. I still love crisp sandwiches now. My DH says he loved condensed milk sandwiches.
