No British sliced chicken breast at Tesco

I do like to have this on a roll for lunch sometimes and don’t usually look at the packaging but today I looked at the back of the packaging and most of it was either EU or Thailand!! There was one that was English but that was a spicy one and I just wanted the plain chicken breast.I honestly cannot believe that we cannot produce this in this country. I know they will say it’s cheaper to get it from those places but I would rather pay a bit more and have it produced at least in UK. The other chicken I looked at was reformed and I certainly don’t want that. Anybody know where I can get this product?

OMG who would have thought it. I will now be checking where my cooked meats come from. Thank you for pointing this out.

I’m as surprised at anyone buying the stuff as I am that it has been around the world before it arrives on the shelves.

If I wanted it I’d make my own and freeze in portions, cheaper too.

A lot of our chicken products come from Thailand, this has been the case for at least the last 12 years (maybe longer, I can only go on my own knowledge of the situation)

JaneJudge Tue 28-Sep-21 13:45:22

It is generally frozen chicken btw

I buy Scottish chicken (and other meats) cook it, slice it and hey presto I get a locally produced product seasoned exactly to my taste. It really isn’t difficult.

I'm aware of chicken coming from Thailand and avoid it.

Good job. They have zero road sense

I only buy organic chicken. It’s expensive but we don’t have it often. If I want chicken sandwiches, I buy organic chicken breast and cook that.

I cook chicken breast from our local butcher and slice it

The Co-op sells cold chicken pieces/slices by British farmers.

Frozen chicken nuggets at the wholesaler come from Thailand JaneJudge. I always check not only where meat is coming from but how the animal has been treated. For this reason I buy free range or organic but still check the label.

Ha! Zoejory smile like your humour.

I remember posting about this years ago, when I discovered that I could no longer buy my favourite Tesco chicken wraps because the chicken came from Thailand sad

It's annoying to find that they are still doing it. Surely we can produce chicken in the UK! Or maybe we were relying on cheap foreign labour to do so, and the situation is even worse now... hmm

I don’t buy that particular product Shina but have you tried M&S?
I only buy meat products produced in the UK.

The intensive animal farms used by Tesco have been part of an investigation by Open Cages into appallingly cruelty to chickens.

2020 outgoing Tesco CEO Dave Lewis, (yep, the man who was paid £30 million for four years work from 2016-2020 while shop staff get minimum wage, knighted for services to the food industry and has just cashed in £13 million in share options) refused to do anything about it.

His successor Ken Murphy (paid £900K for his first five months work) was similarly silent.

Maybe something is happening with regard to this. Maybe they are sourcing elsewhere where practices may be better or worse. I don't know. It's just a theory.

Here's the video exposing the truth about Tesco cheap chicken. I don't mean to start a debate about this. I know people have to live within a budget but people deserve to know what goes on.

The Co-0p sell "trimmings" of beef, turkey and chicken at about £2 a pack. All by British farmers and perfectly ok for sandwiches and salads.

I don't eat meat and stopped shopping at Tesco years ago due to their business practices. For info (and DH), Aldi sell British chicken, certainly in its raw form. I agree it is shocking how much chicken is produce of Thailand, heaven only knows what their animal welfare is like if it pays to fly it thousands of miles.

Shiname You should have realised that there are people who think you should spend time cooking and preparing something which takes you five minutes to eat. It seems senseless to me, if a perfectly acceptable prepared product is available.

I don’t understand what you mean?

This is the end of civilization as we know it.

Shinamae Tue 28-Sep-21 21:48:19

Ahhh.. do you mean then perhaps the people who have suggested cooking a whole chicken and then cooling it,slicing it and freezing it? …?
