Ok, not phobias, but weird dislikes.

One of mine is not liking pasta. I like spaghetti, but don't like any other shape of pasta. Something to do with the shape or texture in my mouth.

Daft I know.

I don't like pasta either GagaJo. It's the texture for me. I've tried it so many times over the years but just don't like it.

Another one for me is mayonnaise. It is difficult to buy a sandwich anywhere that does not include it.

My ex, DD & DGS all have a problem with tomatoes. Not an allergy or a phobia, but some degree of intolerance. Clearly genetic because they all have it.

Beetroot following bad experience as a child.

AGAA4 Sun 22-May-22 16:14:43

My DH wouldn't eat pasta either. I just don't like shell fish. Even the look of them.

sodapop Sun 22-May-22 16:21:09

I can't eat pasta of any sort it's the texture, glad there are others who feel the same, my friends think I'm crazy. I don't like mushrooms either and someone told me the two things may be related but don't know why.
I can't eat all white meals either so steamed fish with pasta and cauliflower is definitely out for me.

I don't much like pasta - I find it tasteless and boring!

But my pet hate is the bits of bone and gristle that turn up in burgers and sausages, or in mince. Biting on those makes me retch. Consequently I try to avoid anything that's risky like that.

aggie Sun 22-May-22 16:50:08

Decent mince or sausages shouldn’t have bone or gristle in !

Aveline Sun 22-May-22 16:53:44

I can't bear the texture of porridge. Just makes me gag. It's a pity because I know it's good for you.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 22-May-22 16:56:57

Aveline - you are so right! Porridge is the work of the devil.

poshpaws Sun 22-May-22 17:01:03

Bananas. I love the flavour but ugh, ugh, ugh to the texture!

Allegretto Sun 22-May-22 17:03:31

I can’t stand butter. To me the texture is just revolting. Any mild cheese is also off limits, though my reaction is less extreme for mild cheese. I’m very happy to eat biscuits and cake made with butter and I love a good strong cheese.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-May-22 17:30:29

Tarragon, I try it every couple of years, but no it’s just ghastly.

Greyduster Sun 22-May-22 17:38:30

I like pasta, but it hate those really thick noodles you get in Japanese restaurants. The thought of them makes me heave. Okay with thin noodles, spaghetti etc.

MissAdventure Sun 22-May-22 17:40:21

Fish.
I can't put anything that smells like that in my mouth.

OakDryad Sun 22-May-22 19:49:20

Meat for me. It's not weird and it's not a phobia just that as a child I found the taste, texture and smell repulsive and I haven't eaten any since childhood. Going anywhere near a butchers shop or counter, the smell makes me feel ill. The smell of charring flesh on BBQs is even worse.

Watching people eat oysters has a similar effect on me, things like mussels and shrimp similar. Hearing lobster shells being cracked makes me want to dive for cover.

crazyH Sun 22-May-22 19:59:40

I’ll eat anything, except pheasant. I was invited to a dinner party where they had this. I was pregnant, but decided to try it. Never more. I was sick the whole night. Thank Heaven, I didn’t lose the baby. So yes, my phobia is pheasant.

grannyrebel7 Sun 22-May-22 20:16:11

Prawns, hate them! Made me laugh about the porridge Aveline & chocolatelovingran I have it for breakfast every morning without fail. I love it and have it with raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, Greek yoghurt and honey. I also don't like liver.

Esspee Sun 22-May-22 20:29:49

I can’t eat anything with an aniseed or liquorice flavour, squid, artificial meat, tofu, raw fish, tripe, anything smoked or anything with mould like blue cheese and salami, semolina, eggs with raw bits, or semolina.
To my shame I can’t eat porridge.

Chewbacca Sun 22-May-22 20:35:55

Beetroot. Whether boiled, roasted or pickled. Awful stuff that makes me heave just looking at it on the supermarket shelf.

Truffle1 Sun 22-May-22 20:47:41

I cannot eat cheese - not allergic, just could never face the thought of eating it! I managed to bring up two kids who both love it and my husband is even allowed to cook with it (despite the smell - yuk!) so I haven't passed it on. Simply the thought of eating it - it just ain't gonna happen x

MissAdventure Sun 22-May-22 20:54:52

Corned beef.
I had a horrific happening with some corned beef years ago.
Over 30 years, but I can still remember it.

Casdon Sun 22-May-22 20:58:53

I can’t bear cucumber. It has a slimy, crunchy, watery and disgusting texture, the thought of it makes me cringe. I’m not keen on melon either, but watermelon in particular is the work of the devil. Yuck.

Scribbles Sun 22-May-22 20:59:55

Bananas - the smell, texture and taste makes me heave.
Any kind of poultry or game. Ugh. Taste, texture, appearance: a mixture of all of those, I think .
Cucumber - I don't dislike the taste although it gives me the runs but the look of it... Oh, please, take it away. Sliced thin and all wet and slimy with those seedy bits in the middle that look like that jelly stuff you use to irrigate pot plants. Yeuk.

BigBertha1 Sun 22-May-22 22:10:56

My grandson 18 in two weeks cannot look at peas. We can't have them on our plates if he is with us or indeed any round food!
