Would any of our Grans be willing to share their recipe for Butter pie please. I believe it is speciality from Preston. Many thanks.

I've looked at both the links to recipes, and it sounds lovely, but why isn't it just called Potato and Onion Pie?

It looks delicious - lovely bit of cheesy stodge - vegetarian too! ?
(I wondered that too Flo)

That’s what I thought, too.
But I’ll certainly be trying one once we’re into autumn - it doesn’t strike me as warm weather food.
I’d def. add some grated cheese!

Why is it called Butter Pie?

Also known as Friday Pie, it was originally created by Catholics in Preston who did not eat meat on Fridays and chose to substitute their beef with butter.

Real stick to the ribs stuff, best served in Autumn or Winter.

Oh my - where have you been all my life, butter pie...

I’m almost looking forward to chilly autumn days now - mind you we’ve got 30 deg forecast for next week! All very well if you’ve got the sea to fall into….
