Thirsty mole

I’ve never seen this before, a mole drinking water from the dish I leave out for the hedgehogs.
The dish is on our patio which is shingle, I don’t know where he came from, but I heard and saw the ivy moving and assumed it was a Vole or a Shrew, pulled the ivy away and there he was!
I assume the lawn is too dry, the ground is very hard.

I tried to catch him, but he hid behind the other garden pots and then I had to come indoors to answer the phone , when I went back he had gone .

I hope he goes under next doors lawn and not mine!

That sounds sweet, a mole coming for a drink, and highly unusual, yes, must be the ground is too hot and dry.
Not so sweet, is the damage they do to the lawn.....grrrrr.

We are putting water out for the birds twice a day.

Yep we are too, well we have a bird bath, usually with a fat wood pigeon in it, but when I shoo him away the sparrows line up for a dip, but I’m keeping it topped up.

I live beside a river, but still put water out for the garden birds.
