Just bought and planted out some lovely Summer bedding,
Anyone else done it yet, it is a bit earlier than we usually plant out, but going to be busy next week so decided to get on with it.Bought mainly pelargoniums and million bells with a few petunias.
Also, for those of you with photinias in your garden.....have they flowered this year?We have quite a few of these shrubs, some were planted about seven years ago, others three years ago, and they have flowered prolifically for the first time this year. They look fantastic.

I have also noticed all the flowers on Photinias, they are spectacular!
I haven't planted out any bedding yet, will give it another couple of weeks for the weather to warm up. I have grown some Tidal Wave Petunias, Nicotianas and Verbena Bonariensis from seed but they are still pretty small. I shall plant up my fence baskets with balcony geraniums, and million bells which did very well last year instead of Lobelia which goes over too soon.
I have today assembled a 3 tier planting basket for some of the red trailing Petunias which should cascade nicely and hide the mini greenhouse.

I just bought some pink Begonias for my pots, from Lidl

Charleygirl5 Thu 09-May-19 17:11:57

I have thought about it but no further!

lemongrove Thu 09-May-19 17:16:39

shysal your three tier planting sounds intriguing, will you post a pic of it when you plant it up please?smile
Yes, lobelia do go over too soon and need so much watering.
I have kept a helichresium ( prob wrong spelling) going in a pot since last Summer, amazingly, outside but next to the house.

Ours are poised outside, huddling my a protective wall, waiting to go. Next week I expect, if the forecast is accurate anyway.

lemongrove, this is the 3 tier basket (Ebay), bigger than I expected, comes up to my shoulder. It will be a month or so before the flowers fill it out but this is the habit of the Petunias. I loved my old planter but it had to be thrown out due to rusting away.

Lovely shysal ?

Alima Thu 09-May-19 17:40:04

I had one of those shysal, they look lovely when full of blooms. I intended to plant up some containers yesterday but was thwarted by the weather, more like March than May. (We had some very low overnight temperatures this last few days.) Did manage to do a few this morning before the heavens opened. Usually plant out the flower beds at the end of May, always enjoy planting out the bedders.

plant out at the end of May. Wish I kept a list from year to year for quantities, names and colours. Bought plant last year but don’t know name now, Can anyone help ?

SisterAct Thu 09-May-19 17:49:39

Impressed I managed a photo ???

shysal Thu 09-May-19 18:06:53

I think they are Nemesia, SisterAct.

The soil is still very cold with this recent chilly spell. Best to wait another 10-14 days I've been told by a professional horticulturalist.

Buffybee Thu 09-May-19 18:22:44

Mine are also huddling near my wall cornergran ☺ and being covered over tucked in at night.
I've bought pretty much the same as you have Lemon, geraniums, trailing petunia, Bacopa and fuschia.
I know it's a bit early but if you leave it much later to buy them, they sometimes sell out, the ones I bought were 20% off and some things, like Cineraria had sold out.
Hopefully find time to get them in this weekend. ???⛅

Seedlings all snug in the greenhouse. I will plant them out in the last week of May.
I’ve 15 pots of Begonias all sprouting merrily. Last year I bought an antique metal plant stand and intend to cover it in Begonias.

Sparklefizz Thu 09-May-19 18:27:29

Sounds gorgeous J52

I thought we were talking low tog duvets here.
A few weeks ago in Dunelm I swa some 3.5 tog and over Easter wished I had bought one.
Now I am pleased I didn't.
It is too cold here for summer bedding plants I think June will be early enough.

grannyqueenie Thu 09-May-19 18:47:29

Ann grin Yes I think it’s a bit too cold here too for tender wee plants but I see them for sale everywhere I look. Mind you this week’s weather hasn’t made we champ at the bit to be doing anything in the garden!

travelsafar Thu 09-May-19 19:18:00

SisterAct i think they are called Nemesia.

annodomini Thu 09-May-19 20:25:41

Mine will arrive at the end of the month. A local school's PTA sells bedding plants for funds every year. They are grown by a member and are always very good value.

lemongrove Thu 09-May-19 21:44:06

Shysal thanks, the tiered planter looks great (I want one!)
Yes, grin the thread title does suggest low tog duvets, in fact I changed ours over during the hot spell a little while ago ( a Summer 2.5 tog) and have been cold this last week, so now added a throw which helps.Going to be warm again next week though.☀️

Coolgran65 Thu 09-May-19 22:15:47

I bought some nasturtium plants this week and have risked planting them out. Fingers crossed.

SisterAct Thu 09-May-19 23:05:20

Thank you for the name. Shysal and travelsafar. I’ve only been getting interested in gardening in the last few years.

shysal Fri 10-May-19 16:36:20

I planted up my 3-tier basket this afternoon because some mail order plants arrived. I am so disappointed with the planter. It is not man enough for the job! When filled with compost it leans and twists so I have had to tie it to the fence. Last year I bought a very cheap set at Wilkinson's which was rubbish so I thought paying twice the price would buy me a stronger one. sad And just to make matters worse I trod in some cat sh*t buried in the grass.!

Telly Fri 10-May-19 16:56:43

Not decided what colour scheme but yes usually out by now will be fine in this part of the country. I nearly put the tomatoes out but it's been a bit windy so probably at the weekend.
