Compost - why do all stores say Click & Collect

I don't have transport so the only way to get some compost is to pay extortionate delivery charges even if I only want a couple of bags.
Why is it so hard for me to get compost delivered? I thought that gardening, especially in my case, was an activity you can do during the lockdown?

Any advice please?

If it helps I live on the South Coast near Littlehampton.

Do any of your neighbours have doorstep milk deliveries, and if so, could you ask them to order some for you? Because my milk delivery service now has compost again - though it was out of stock for some time. 40l for £5 - £7 according to type.

Try your local nurseries/garden centres or if they won’t deliver, the bigger countrywide suppliers.
