I would like some recommendations for trailing and climbing plants for next year. I am a very novice gardener and have raised beds and lots of pots to fill next year. I would prefer plants that come back year on year. I have bulbs to plant for the spring but would like to know what I need and when to put them in for flowers for the summer.
I also have a gravel border in the front and would like some spreading flowers to put in for the spring.

For climbers I have Wisteria, Jasmine, climbing Hydrangea, Honeysuckle and in Summer I grow some Sweet Peas up wigwams in borders or pots.
For your gravel border you could put in some small bulbs with alpine plants that will spread. Enjoy your gardening.

I’ve got a couple of everlasting SweetPea plants and my climbers are the same as tanith.

For the gravel border I would suggest a selection of hardy border Geraniums. The longest flowering one I know is Rozanne. Mine are still glorious. The foliage dies down in winter but returns in the spring.

If you have a succession of bulbs, the packages will tell you the flowering season and when to plant. Most can be started around now, but tulips not until November. Alliums are my current favourites, in many heights and sizes.
