Spring on its way!

The soil has warmed up now so I slowly dug over my raised veg patch. I look forward to sewing and planting but not just get have to be patient.

Beautiful Lisagran I just can't wait for my garden to come alive I have ordered my yearly supply of plants for my tubs and baskets are due to be delivered soon ready for me to plant out.

I spent a lovely hour or so out in the garden, yesterday. I tidied up all the stalks and mess left over after the frost and snow. Lots of little shoots popping through. The primroses and hellebores are just coming out, but I’ve lost my snowdrops. They were only recently introduced to the garden ( in the green) but seem to have gone! I know where I can get more.
Later on its weeding the planters and pots.

I spent a lovely afternoon yesterday pottering. A bit of hope!

LG reading this thread has given me the idea of getting out in my garden this afternoon and get some tidying up done the sun is shining here and energy flowing so old clothes and shoes at the ready.

Yes, pottering at this time of year is wonderful. You can see little buds on apparently bare trees and shrubs, little green shoots starting to poke through the soil, crocuses and snowdrops. It’s the same on a walk. I’m awful for peering into people’s front gardens to see what’s coming up. A couple of times I’ve ended up chatting to the garden owner- maybe they think I’m casing the joint!

Whilst driving to do my Aunts shopping i saw a beautifull array of crocus and daffs.
Couldn`t help but smile.

It’s more exciting than usual this year isn’t it, it seems like we’ve had a endless winter?

My problem is I’ve spent hours poring over seeds online, I’ve got enough now to rival Kew Gardens I think. I ordered a new cold frame, it’s coming next week and I can’t wait to get that going.

It's so lovely to see the spring flowers beginning to peep through or even be in bloom. This winter seems to have gone on forever.

I was totally excited today when I saw my new babies coming through. This is the first time I've tried to grow seeds that need a bit more heat to get started. They're living in a little sort of green house box thing on the kitchen windowsill during the day and on the worktop at night in case it's too cold next to the window.

To say I'm excited is an understatement

I have such admiration for hellebores. Last week they were frozen solid and this week they are blooming lovely.

That’s a lovely Hellebore, Boz - I’ve got lots, but not a pure white one. Must remedy that!

Plenty of beautiful welcome snowdrops with me. Also just spotted a couple of crocii have burst out. One yellow one lilac. Am keeping a note this year because another thread suggested people only managed to grow one colour at a time. Perhaps soil related? No idea.

On 1st February I cut some forsythia and brought it into the house. 2 weeks on and the flowers are out, i have a lovely vase of spring flowers.

While out today I saw some daffodils, snowdrops and crocuses. It cheers us up doesn't it? They're so very badly needed during these strange times.

It’s just warming up here enough for things to start putting on a spurt. I noticed today that my favourite snakeshead fritillaries on the rockery are starting to push through the soil, but we have nothing in flower yet apart from hellebores and heathers. That is, indeed, a lovely hellebore, Boz. The white ones don’t thrive in my garden.

We spent the morning weeding borders and chatting to passers by. So pleasant - despite the backache now!

Crikey are we the only ones that have had constant rain for the last six weeks?? We have clay soil and won't even be able to think about digging or planting until we've had a good three weeks without rain or we'll end up with holes full of water.

So lovely to see the pics of such colourful flowers coming out. We have some snowdrops but that's about all. The daffodils that came out earlier were flattened by the snow and ice. A few hellebores are beginning to show their faces though, so it shouldn't be long now ?

Lovely pictures of Spring being on the way. I planted some annual seeds on Friday, keeping them in the conservatory at the moment. Pottering in the garden and walking the dog by the beach have enabled me to get through lockdown,. Really missed the garden in the Winter.

Severnsider, I did the same, and have a lovely show of flowers. Now the leaves are starting to unfurl.

Last year we planted an espaliered apple and I am looking forward to some blossoms and hopefully fruit. My lilacs had quite a severe pruning just after blooming last year, so I am hoping they will be healthy, with blooms closer to human height rather than sky high!

Walking back from the supermarket yesterday I noticed that our small community orchard is carpeted with crocuses! They come up every year but this year they are a particularly cheering sight!

What is your favourite colour of crocuses? Mine is the light blue striped, although I do like a mixture.
