A triumph of hope over experience?

Guilty as charged, but see my comments on another thread er my plans for the garden this year; to be sat in, not worked in! Every Spring I send for seeds, spend hours in my greenhouse planting, pricking out, nurturing, and end up with, at most, half a dozen pathetic specimens.

Since lockdown I buy plants and bulbs on line. I spend an absolute fortune, especially with the plants, which are absolutely miniscule. I plant them with great love and care. Every day come rain, shine, gale or ice I survey my " estate" and watch while absolutely nothing happens. 😭😭😭

I also spend hours looking at catalogues . I think that it's not always our fault when plants fail !

Some gardens just don't have the right conditions for particular plants :

Yesterday, I admired the beautiful china blue Siberian iris , which comes up in my father's garden year in and year out .
It was just a tiny plant from a neighbour's garden .
And then , I recall that I planted a dozen Siberian iris in my garden and not one of them took .
I've grown magnificent Ensata iris and my father's have failed .
