Which application for accestor storage would you say is the best and why.

Hi, I've been researching for 25 years and use a computer program to store all their details. Is that what you mean? On the computer tree is everyone, 1,290 people (many are just distantly related names). The program stores all your source information, and in fact anything you want. There are several programs to choose from and I like Ancestral File because Family Historian seems complicated to me. The programs are fairly complicated so you have to keep using them daily to get familiar. But once you know how they work you can easily search for anyone.
For printing on paper I break the families up and print just one family at a time. I never attempt printing a whole tree. It seems over complicated and runs over several pages. I like the families broken into bite sized portions!

We keep our ancestors in graves. More recently we seem to have them in plastic sweet jars!

Since I began my research back in 1999, I've used Brother's Keeper. Tried others but always gone back to BK. Very easy to use. Start with the free version and then upgrade if you wish.

There are so many programs but you can always try a couple of free downloads before committing. Family Tree Maker is very popular and is said to be the best all rounder. It also links up with Ancestry apparently.

No free trial of Family Tree Maker I'm afraid. It costs £80 if you want to be brave. If you have an Ancestry login you can get detailed instructions here. I've just taken a look and it shows very clearly how the program works:

I use Tribalpages which allows you to have your tree as a website if you wish so that you can share it with your family.

My husband has been using Family Tree Maker for some years now but the version he has no longer links to Ancestry so he will probably have to upgrade at some point. He's researched both sides of his family and recently started looking into mine which is fascinating.

I’ve used Legacy for more years than I can recall. Upside is that it’s free, you don’t need the de luxe edition. Downside (possibly) is that it’s Windows only. I keep an old Windows laptop especially for that.
