A-level results: fingers crossed for grandchildren!

I havent heard from them and I am in the same box! Everything crossed for you!

eggmayo and roroism I hope you hear some good news soon. Obviously, A level and, for that matter, GCSE results are important to the young people themselves and their families, but I could do without all this opening them in front of television cameras, bouncing up and down and endless interviews with UCAS people. It will all happen all over again with GCSE results in a couple of weeks time. I am not interested and don't consider them of any importance to me, however much I wish all anxiously awaiting-the-news grannies on gransnet well. Maybe I should change my name to miserableoldcrone.

I work in a Grammar School in Kent and am the examinations officer (organises and runs all the public exams and arranges the results collections).
It is agonising for the kids especially at A level. However I think they build their results up out of all proportion and at my school they are never satisfied with anything less than a top mark and feel inferior if they don't get them.
I agree with absentgrana about the bouncing up and down on camera-have you noticed that the pervy press reporters always seem to choose the girls with the long hair and short skirts to photograph?
What I do hate are the people who say the exams are easy-GCSE maybe easier than O levels but A levels are definitely NOT easy-I have seen papers of all subjects and seen how hard they are marked by the board. Our school has some of the top students in the country but they still have to work really really hard to get the high marks that they achieve. Don't listen to anyone who says they are easy!!

Thanks for the best wishes - my grandson got his marks, and will be going to Uni as he wished. Very Proud Grandma over here I have told his mother to spoil him silly for me!

Good news eggmayo. I'm sure you're thrilled. I hope any other grans, including roroism, who were awaiting news of their grandchildren's results are just as pleased. If there have been disappointments, remember it's jsu a set-back and all set-backs can be overcome.

Grandchildren not at the exam age, but have been keeping my fingers crossed for my favourite Goddaughter, who has had a bad year on the personal and family front. Have just heard she has passed with flying colours and is going to the university of her choice.

Congrats to all proud grand/godparents. My GD got in on clearing last year and is doing fine now in a course that suits her far better than the one she originally wanted. So, if there are any grans feeling a bit disappointed for their GC, please don't despair. Things have a way of working out for the best. Even if they haven't made it this time, life is full of second chances. But they will need all their families' support and confidence right now.
Ten years until my next GD reaches that stage.

Congratulations to all proud grandparents - ours are too little yet but my best friends daughter got 5As at AS level, A levels next year. Clever girl with languages and music.
