New Grandson

Just before Christmas my latest grandson was born. There were problems with C-Section and he spent a week in neonatal - juandice, floppy, fluid on lungs, etc. Finally released after just over a week. Because of his problems, the hospital took many blood tests to check for genetic problems, including Prader Willi. The jaundice continued for about 6 weeks so the poor little chap had to have urine taken directly from his bladder which involved a huge needle being plunged through his abdomen. Came back all clear. Went to the hospital for a 3 month check with neonatal unit, hopefully to be signed off. All the blood tests had come back clear, but the consultant wouldn't sign him off because, when he's lying down and you go to pull him up by his hands, he doesn't lift his head immediately! The doc said it could just be that he's more interested in something else, especially as he sits up perfectly well and is looking around. They have to go back in 3 months for another check up.

I will be so relieved when we get the all-clear. I don't think there is anything wrong with him. He's a cheerful little chap, very alert. Life is been rather busy with all his hospital appointments that I haven't really had time to post anything recently. Hopefully all change now. smile

Bless him! I do hope so for all your sakes. I am sure all babies must vary in what they do at different stages and I m also sure that his Mum and Granny are the best possible observers of these little milestones.
All the best to him - he'll be crawling around like the proverbial off a shovel before you know where you are!

Doesn't lift his head immediately! hmm

I know a big boy who would rather lie down than get up!

The traumas some babies go through janthea but he does sound like a happy baby and hopefully you can all start to enjoy him without any more worries. Best wishes. flowers

Great news janthea it sounds as though he is coming along nicely. My little grandaughters, Polly and Alice, have had this lifting head test several times now, and Alice obliged at last, just last week - they are now just over 5 months old but were born 10 weeks early, so corrected age is about 3 months. One baby does things that we know the other baby will do in 2 or 3 weeks. All those tests are so scary, but the consultant knows he has to evidence each of those little milestones being reached, and we had the same issue waiting for them to be signed off. smile

Carol - I'm sure he's fine, but as you say, the consultant must tick all the boxes. Very worrying. But looking at him he has strong neck muscles, always looking around and when he's on his tummy, he lifts his head. He's a big boy now weighing in at around 16lbs and wearing clothes that would fit a 6mth old even though he's only just 4mths.

Thank you everyone for your very kind thoughts. His name is Tobias - Tobi for short. grin

janthea Glad to hear that Tobi is doing so well. Glad, too, that the consultant is so thorough and scrupulous.

janthea, I'm glad that Tobias is getting so much care and attention; you'll know that when the doctors have given the all clear that you have no worries about his health. smile
