My son has hit on the idea of having me do babysitting via FaceTime while he works from home.
Once this became routine I was given music practice to supervise. This involves DGD1 repeatedly playing two Christmas tunes on her violin. I believe he subjects us to this as some form of retribution for past sins. I smile and give lots of encouragement to which she responds by playing them again....and again. ???
This weekend DGD2 was showing us the funfair she had made for her Barbie dolls. They have a steep flight of stairs sweeping up to landings on three sides. There were bungee jumps and parachute jumps on to cushions strategically placed below, and a zip wire which was made from a basket over a string which was taut from the top right to bottom left of the stair bannisters. Barbies placed in the basket enjoyed hurtling down at a fast rate and on occasion being ejected as the basket reached the end of it’s traverse. More cushions were hurriedly placed to break their fall.
After several demonstrations the little one excitedly took me (i.e. daddy’s phone) up the stairs and then I couldn’t see anything but could hear muffled whoops. I was supposed to be supervising. I shouted and shouted. Lots of movement, fuzzy pictures then my son’s face appeared. DGD2 was being given a lecture about sending daddy’s (extremely expensive I) phone down in the zip wire basket. Fortunately it hadn’t suffered ejection at the bottom and was intact.
And the little one’s explanation? “I was just letting grandma try out the zip wire”. ???
We are wondering if I will be allowed to babysit again or perhaps will have to restrict my services to yet more violin practice.? ??
