Having a 'clear out' I came across my mother in law's old autograph album, there is nothing of real note in it, except this, which is written in the most beautiful hand, particularly as the album is only 4" x 3". Unfortunately, I cannot get my scanner to scan:

You've requested me to write something lyrical and light
Something fanciful or fresh and free-and-easy,
Something pastoral and pretty, or a waggish thing and witty,
Nothing brilliant, but bright, and brisk and breezy!

So I struggle and I strive, vainly reaching to revive
My merry Muse in Mumm and Maraschino,
I've solicited in shandy, and besought her too in Brandy
And in native draughts of various sorts of vino!

But my brainpan is befuddled, I am maudlin and muddled,
And I am writing rot that neither rhyme nor reason,
So I fain would be forgiven for the scribble I have scriven
Just sending you the sentiments of the season!

It is signed J.D.Hayes, Xmas 1919.

I just enjoy reading this, hope you do too. Should point out that this is entirely out of context with my mother-in-law's family.
