Hello!

<pokes head over political threads parapet to assess whether or not it's safe to tie up the last of the (apolitical) bunting>...

in preparation for....

..our very own Gransnet Great Get Together! This Sunday 18th June around midday we will be taking part in the nationwide celebrations, in honour of the late Jo Cox and her belief that we have #MoreInCommon.

We would like to invite you all to bring your own Pimms or tipple of choice and a plate of virtual goodies and come join the fun. If you’re up to baking, we’ve got some tasty recipe ideas…

We’ll be giving away spot PRIZES and sharing silly gifs. We invite you all to share a joke, a funny or heartwarming story or just let us know what you’re up to.

If you prefer to meet up with people nearby in real life there’s plenty happening nationwide. You can check out a local Great Get Together here. Or check out your Gransnet Local page to see if anything’s been organised by a local editor.

There’s been so much sadness in recent weeks and this is the perfect opportunity to show our support for each other and our communities. We hope to see you here on Sunday - bunting lovers or not. grin

Whooppee, thanks for the invite! I'll make my GF chocolate sponge with nutella buttercream filling and topping. Would you like the customary crumbled up flake on top too? grin

Lara is it an aberration to have political threads on GN?

Very patronising - you wouldn't have dared to post that on Mumsnet.

kittylester Thu 15-Jun-17 15:02:03

But I thought it was funny Lara. I know, Riverwalk, says more about me than you!

Riverwalk Thu 15-Jun-17 15:41:36

We're all different Kitty

I just don't find it amusing that there are active political threads on GN, given the times we're in.

Grandmothers are more than lemon drizzle cake.

kittylester Thu 15-Jun-17 15:45:01

Aren't we just!!

Grannyknot Thu 15-Jun-17 15:45:44

Twitter was awash with "Is it safe to come out yet, or is everyone still a politician?" memes and they were all very funny.

I'll come to the party!

Grannyknot Thu 15-Jun-17 15:50:14

Here's just one ...

kittylester Thu 15-Jun-17 15:58:37

Love it!! wine

rosesarered Thu 15-Jun-17 16:01:07

Well, it's Fathers Day on Sunday, so will have family around, but will peek in here at some time during the day (prizes!) ???

NanaandGrampy Thu 15-Jun-17 16:09:38

I love that one too Grannyknot .

Chewbacca Thu 15-Jun-17 16:19:20

I make a rather good lemon drizzle cake, if I do say so myself! It's so tangy that it makes your mouth go like a cat's bum! ? Shall I bring it, or would something sweeter be better?

grannypiper Thu 15-Jun-17 16:28:28

I will bring a large flask of tea

Auntieflo Thu 15-Jun-17 16:44:58

It's DH's birthday today, and with Fathers Day on Sunday, we are going to DD for lunch, hooray, but I would like to pop in and see the jollifications. Coffee and Walnut cake OK?

Elegran Thu 15-Jun-17 17:01:33

Sounds like fun! Ignore the pursed-mouthers for an hour or two and live it up.

Chewbacca Thu 15-Jun-17 17:03:24

Oh, that's a good point Elegran, maybe my rather tangy lemon drizzle cake would only exacerbate matters!

Elegran Thu 15-Jun-17 17:22:01

Maybe syrupy-sweet things for those who need them and lemon drizzle cake for others?

Riverwalk Thu 15-Jun-17 17:42:24

I'm far from a 'pursed-mouther' Elegran just surprised that GNHQ should poke fun at political threads.

ninathenana Thu 15-Jun-17 17:43:36

Coffee and walnut is more than ok with me Auntieflo
Blueberry muffin anyone ?

Chewbacca Thu 15-Jun-17 17:46:27

Yes please nina. Will you be bringing any wine or brew ?

PoshGran Thu 15-Jun-17 17:57:29

Shall make a virtual Tipsy Ginger Cake on Saturday - it needs to prove seethe soak overnight for best results!
grin

Chewbacca Thu 15-Jun-17 18:03:07

grin ooh yes Poshgran that sounds ideal! How appropriate! grin

Anniebach Thu 15-Jun-17 19:01:53

Yes please, no idea what to bring though
